Comments (5)We hardwired the Xenon task undercabinet lights sold by Pegasus. We have them on a switched circuit and did not use a dimmer because they already have a built in hi/lo switch. The 16" units have two 20 watt bulbs and the 24" have three. We have found these to be very good both as task and mood lighting. Yes they do get hot, but not that bad, and certainly better than halogen bulbs. If heat is your concern, then you might want to consider fluorescent, but IMHO, Xenon light has a better color rendition. The fixtures come in several fiinshes, and you can get the specs, etc., on their web site. We have order several times from Pegasus with no problems. Comments (21)Our kitchen is similiar, not a lot of natural light. We used halogen recessed cans in the ceiling. You'd be shocked at how much light they can throw off, and they are not too concentrated in one spot. Just make sure you have the right kind of reflectors in the can for more general wide lighting. They also do illuminate the ceiling from light that bounces back up. We put halogen pendants over the island, but they are more spot, as they are concrete and only light the area below them. All the halogens are on dimmers, so we can control the amount of light and heat they generate. On dimmers, halogens are very efficient and "green", using less electricity. Under the cabinets, we put in xenon. They stay cooler. However, to be totally honest with you, we never have all the lights on at the same time. The halogens illuminate the kitchen so well I hardly ever use the undercab lights, even during meal preparation. The xenons usually come on when the halogens are off during a dinner party (we have a huge great room kitchen arrangement). They function more as mood lighting than anything else. If I did it over again, I'd probably even omit the undercab lights altogether....See MoreVisible undercabinet lighting??
Comments (6)I have 30" upper cabinets that are mounted on the wall from 62" up to 92", with no light rail or deco strip to hide the light. I have GE design fluorescents from Home Depot: they're basically T5 strip fluorescents, but they have a curved diffuser case (rather than a box diffuser case like most of the T5s), so even though the light is at my eye level, I don't get blinded or find it annoying. I really recommend them....See MoreThe Best Under-Cabinet Lighting for Your Kitchen
Comments (1)Without much detail to your inquiry, I’ll only be able to address this in broad general terms... I often specify American Lighting Trulux LED tape lighting for under-cabinet (and cove or toe-kick) lighting. It is small (⅛” x ½” approximately) so can be hidden/mounted in a variety of ways, dimmable, drivers can be remotely mounted easily, is available in a varity of standard to high lumen outputs and color temperatures. I’ve recently heard good things about LEDI Lighting LED tapes too, but have not installed those yet. For very tight budgets you might look to Kichler or NSLUSA companies for some options. When mounting, be sure to consider the reflectivity of your countertop and backsplash materials, to avoid (as much as possible) seeing the LED ‘dots’ or consider mounting in a channel and using a frosted lens. https://americanlighting.com/trulux https://ledi.lighting/products/inspire-tape/ https://www.kichler.com/products/indoor-lighting/led-tape-light-channels/ https://www.nslusa.com/product/commercial/ambient/led-tape-light/...See More- 12 years ago
