Shaw farmhouse sink install

I just talked to my granite fabricater and he had a few questions about installing our 30" single bowl shaw sink. He also mentioned that our GC will need to build a frame for our sink. Does this sound right? Can you please post pics of your shaw farmhouse sink? Here is the picture of the cabinet the sink is going into. It's a 33" cabinet that's bumped out. I will try to post a better picture later today.

Your GC has to make a frame to support the sink and bring it level w/the top of the cabinet. It needs to be in place when the granite co. comes to template.
Unlike SS sinks which are attached to the granite and is the granite fabricator's responsibility, the farmsink sits in the cabinet and the granite is fabricated to lay on top of, or just around the top of the sink.

Thanks! They just built this frame today. It looks right. But they had already done the template last week. The granite fabricater has the sink in his possession. Do you think that's okay?

I’ve had a 30” Shaw at a second home for 10 years and still love it but decided on the 33” Kohler Whitehaven for our new kitchen reno at home - it was such a price difference and looked so similar. I actually like it better! I especially like the slight slant of the bottom to the offset drain. Much easier to rinse scraps into the disposal. It’s still new but it does seems like the Kohler finish is easier to keep clean. We removed the Kohler logo (which was crooked anyway) so it’s just all white and looks great!

Thank you all so much! I don't know what the heck to do. As I said, my cabinet base has been cut for this sink. My cabs are Decora...cream with a rust glaze. It is interesting that this sink WAS a floor model from my local plumbing supply. I ordered a sink back in Feb., and the lady at the store said no problem getting one even after I had mentioned the backlog problem to her. Well, sure nuff, three weeks later when my sink had not come in, she called the distributor and found out about the backlog. That's when she said I could have the floor model...so I jumped at it. I'm assuming now the hold up in the 30 inchers is over. Is that right? Anyone know anymore about why there was a problem in getting the sinks to begin with? I think I heard is was a problem with the mold. Any info on that would be appreciated. I could call the store tomorrow and see if they have gotten another sink in...or see how long to get another one. But, my cabinet has been cut for THIS sucker and I can just imagine how off it might be with another one. And whose to say a new sink would drain any better. I think it's just the luck of the draw. And sadly, we were going to the granite fabricator tomorrow to see the templates on the stone. He said he would be ready to install on Wednesday. We were finally gettin this granite show rolling. Now this. But, ya know, I do like the look of this big, fat, round baby in my kitchen. I just don't think I would like to start all over and go with a "non" farmhouse sink. I've even considered that idea. Somebody slap me up side the head and tell me what to do! Isn't it amazing what weenies we can turn into with this kitchen cr*p! TIA.

laurencp: The fabricator said it was "no problem" because it wasn't his. How much this entails depends upon the sophistication level and fussiness of the customer more than anything else. I wouldn't build and paint match two new doors for less than $750.00, but that's just me. I can't imagine biting off a bigger nightmare than a paint match on such a small job. All the headache, none of the money.

We're comparing apples to oranges. Cinclips are a fine product and will be a best value to the lesser-skilled DIYer who will gladly trade ease of installation for a bit more money. For a production fabricator, it isn't even close. The significantly lower cost of the HUSH and Sink Strap (7x's less) combined with the speed that comes from experience of repeated installations, make them a better value for that buyer. As a general rule, production fabricators don't shop and review on Amazon for common supplies, unlike a homeowner with a failed sink to repair.

That platform looks awfully close to the top of the cabinet for an apron sink to fit. They are like 10" deep outside. So the platform would be that far down from the top edge of the cabinet box. In the pic, it does not look like 10"
It appears that they just made the platform the same level as the cabinet cutout; the fact is that the cutout is cut by the installer to match the size and shape of the sink.
Generally, it's best practise to mount the sink on rails at both ends rather than a flat solid platform. The platform now must be cut to admit the flange, disposal, etc, and cutting a sheet of oriented strand board only weakens it.
It's not best practice, more like a "practice run".

That's correct, but it can be done the way she has it. Without knowing the exact sink/dimensions, undermount or flush or sitting above the counter, whatever. But, I have to trust that the GC and granite guy have this under control and I hate to be an alarmist after-the-fact.
It's never good to have full contact between ceramic and wood -- there's no breathing room. If it's already in place and can't be changed, you can add those little nylon cabinet "buttons" to simply create air space.

Thank you sombriel- you are absolutely right. The shelf is too high. I went and measured tonight. The cabinet will need to be cut and the platform lowered a good 3-4 inches. The platform is supported by rails. I'd love to see pics of the sink supported by rails as you mentioned so that I can show my GC.

I have a Porcher London, not a Shaw's, but same idea going on with the cabinet customization and install. I took pics when it was being done because I know questions about farm sink stalls are often posted here. Below I linked my pics. Let me know if you have any questions. I do believe silicone was put down underneath the sinks.
