I have the 2-bowl Shaw and both sides drain nicely.

we had the very same problem with our 36" single-bowl shaw's in our last kitchen. the size of the sink, coupled with the drain being offset to one side, combined with the fact that the things are handmade and vary from one to the next makes this happen.

it's a tradeoff. you'll have to decide if you want to the sink to be level on the bottom, making it conducive to good draining, or on the top, making it line up well with your granite.

it's one of the prices we pay for having a product that's individual and handmade.

if it's any consolation, i had this problem in my last kitchen and we've still opted to go with a shaw's in the new kitchen.

Nope, my 3018 doesn't drain. One front corner of my sink was a full 1/4" lower than the others. So I had to choose having the sink drain, or having it look level from the front. I chose appearance over function! Sometimes I think the Shaw's company is laughing all the way to the bank!

I have the brochure for this sink and it recommends waxing the sink to help with draining.

My sink has been installed for 4 years and it drains beautifully.

A variance in the top rim and sides is normal. I'd be sure the installer levels the base of the sink and adjusts for the rim.

Since your sink is already seated you might not be able to switch the mount style (or not wish to). But an undermount with negative reveal requires more countertop adjustment when there is rim variance.

My sink is upmounted, which for sinks with variance on the rim can be a neat solution. It does require caulk around the back and sides but mine is clear caulk, has held up really well and is pretty much invisible.

The company guarantees their sinks for manufacturing defects. They state that 2% is normal. If there is a more than 2% variance, I'd contact Rohl.

Occasionally someone doesn't like one of these sinks. Not often but I've seen it happen. Most owners, like myself, are very devoted and would install one again. I certainly would without a moment's hesitation.

Get a new sink. Shaw's sinks do vary but yours sounds like it's out of tolerance, and it's certainly not functional. The local plumbing supply house has a sink that they know is defective and they use for display purposes only -- won't sell it to customers. I already rejected one sink with an obvious bow in the long straight edge.

Thank you all so much! I don't know what the heck to do. As I said, my cabinet base has been cut for this sink. My cabs are Decora...cream with a rust glaze. It is interesting that this sink WAS a floor model from my local plumbing supply. I ordered a sink back in Feb., and the lady at the store said no problem getting one even after I had mentioned the backlog problem to her. Well, sure nuff, three weeks later when my sink had not come in, she called the distributor and found out about the backlog. That's when she said I could have the floor model...so I jumped at it. I'm assuming now the hold up in the 30 inchers is over. Is that right? Anyone know anymore about why there was a problem in getting the sinks to begin with? I think I heard is was a problem with the mold. Any info on that would be appreciated. I could call the store tomorrow and see if they have gotten another sink in...or see how long to get another one. But, my cabinet has been cut for THIS sucker and I can just imagine how off it might be with another one. And whose to say a new sink would drain any better. I think it's just the luck of the draw. And sadly, we were going to the granite fabricator tomorrow to see the templates on the stone. He said he would be ready to install on Wednesday. We were finally gettin this granite show rolling. Now this. But, ya know, I do like the look of this big, fat, round baby in my kitchen. I just don't think I would like to start all over and go with a "non" farmhouse sink. I've even considered that idea. Somebody slap me up side the head and tell me what to do! Isn't it amazing what weenies we can turn into with this kitchen cr*p! TIA.

I still think you're better off with a new sink, even if it means heavy caulking of the existing sink base (best case scenario) or waiting 6 weeks for a new sink base at a cost of several hundred dollars (medium case scenario). Living for the next several-to-many years with an item getting heavy daily use that will not perform its intended function is, IMO, the worst case scenario. Just my thoughts.

The backorder only affected the 30" models, it was something to do with the mold, and it is OVER. :)

My 1/4" inch was definitely beyond the 2%. Also, the drain was reversed on mine (to be more exact, the label was reversed, which, depending on the orientation, made the drain reversed.) My front also had a black pit on it, and the top lip had a hard pimple!! I politely called Shaw's, and was told (regarding the drain/label location, and the pit, and the pimple "sometimes happen" (not much concern in her voice. She said it would have to be inspected, but didn't know how long that would take, and that the company might still conclude that it was within their tolerances. I said that I didn't think the drain should be, b/c it has to match the plumbing, for goodness sakes, and it is described as being on the right side! She finally agreed that the drain might be a legit complaint. This was at the time of the backorder, and I had already waited 2 years for my countertop. I needed that sink. So I got 10% on it from homeclick. Argh! It was a disappointing appearance.

But I'm sorry to hijack your thread. You have sympathy when it comes to sink wonkiness!

if you have a sidespray, it's really not that big of a problem to deal with. we got used to just kind of wiping the water over toward the drain after we were all done doing dishes and cleaning everything up for the night.

it wasn't perfect. nothing ever is.

GOOD NEWS! The plumbing store has another sink so we are going to get it to see how it works and choose between the two. At least we will have another option. This one probably won't fit the cabinet cutout that's already done, but we will deal with that issue somehow. Thanks for all your comments. All of them help me in one way or another. I plan to posts some pics if I ever get finished with all this kitchen mess...have to learn how to do it. And in the future, I will help and hold someone else's hand when they are in sink h*ll. Pupwhipped -- let us know how it goes. It will be fine. I'm betting they will make it fit and look great. The sink is one thing that's really worth the aggravation to get right IMO. (other things not so much).

pupwhipped- did you get your sink situation solved to your satisfaction?

My plumber came by yesterday. I now have running water in my kitchen!! No draining problems with my Shaws sink. And no splash problems with my Perrin Rowe faucet. One more worry behind me!

mary in nc, well, I don't really know yet. The new sink is in along with the granite. The new sink is much better then the first one. You could look at the first one and see the wonkiness of it. Don't have faucets installed yet...the holes have been drilled for them and I'm already worried I screwed that up. HA! I got the Rohl's country faucet with side spay, an Instant Hot, and a soap dispenser. I must have looked like a deer caught in headlights when the granite guys asked, "hey lady, where you want all these holes drilled?" "Uh, duh...I don't know."

I haven't had the nerve to pour water into this sink with a pitcher like I did with the other one cause this one is "set in stone" so to speak. No turning back now. It either drains or it doesn't. We are using the phrase "it is what it is" a great deal now. Bigger problem is that we have a major caulking job to do on the edges of this sink because the cut-out is too big. I don't think I'm going to be happy with that and am looking for a creative way to hide it. Shaw sink......gotta love em!

Glad your sink is draining. What faucet did you get? Oh, and get in that kitchen and wash some pots and pans in that pretty sink for me!
