I’ve had a 30” Shaw at a second home for 10 years and still love it but decided on the 33” Kohler Whitehaven for our new kitchen reno at home - it was such a price difference and looked so similar. I actually like it better! I especially like the slight slant of the bottom to the offset drain. Much easier to rinse scraps into the disposal. It’s still new but it does seems like the Kohler finish is easier to keep clean. We removed the Kohler logo (which was crooked anyway) so it’s just all white and looks great!

We installed a massive single bowl Whitehaus sink in our kitchen a few years ago, and I love, love, love it. BTW, I would never go back to a double bowl after having the really large single. I did drop a heavy, oversized bowl on the corner of the sink a while back. Bowl shattered, and because of the way it hit, I ended up with a 2" crack in the sink on the corner, but have learned to love it as part of the "distressed" look of my kitchen. (It certainly distressed ME at the time!) Otherwise, after three or four years, we have had no problem with finish, staining, etc on our white Whitehaus sink. BTW, after using special cleaner for a while, discovered that plain baking soda is far and away the best cleaner for our white sink. It's gentle, chep, and even gets up the occasional cast iron skillet oops stain when I forget to finish the dishes.

I picked the Shaw but I think the Franke looks just as nice. Our marble installer cracked the sink during the install. This whole sad saga is described in other threads. But the point here is that Rohl replaced it, even though I told them exactly what happened. They still called it a "thermal crack" and replaced it. I was totally surprised at this decision on Rohl's part. Another little factotum about the Shaw's sink (the 30 --this might not apply to you if you get the 36) -- the sink's drain has a left hand offset. At least most of them do. About one or two in ten have a right hand offset and these are sent out "randomly." Don't ask me how I know. The sink now installed in our kitchen is not the second, but the third sink that has been sent to us. Now, the downside is that the Shaw sinks do vary a bit and so the new sink did not exactly match the first sink, the one upon which the marble was templated. I'm thrilled that we -- I should say DH, who has pulled many a miracle in this kitchen -- was able to get the old one out and the new one in without perturbing cabinets or marble that were now firmly in place. The margins around the sink are not exactly even. I've decided it will just be a reminder about the hubris of desiring perfection and have moved on. Just a couple of things to know about Rohl and Shaw's sinks, the good and the, well, idiosyncratic.

That platform looks awfully close to the top of the cabinet for an apron sink to fit. They are like 10" deep outside. So the platform would be that far down from the top edge of the cabinet box. In the pic, it does not look like 10" It appears that they just made the platform the same level as the cabinet cutout; the fact is that the cutout is cut by the installer to match the size and shape of the sink. Generally, it's best practise to mount the sink on rails at both ends rather than a flat solid platform. The platform now must be cut to admit the flange, disposal, etc, and cutting a sheet of oriented strand board only weakens it. It's not best practice, more like a "practice run". Casey
