Need recommendation for economical wall mount chimney hood

Was planning on an undercabinet hood, but plans were changed at the 12th hour so now I need to make a quick purchase of a quiet, efficient, affordable chimney hood with easy controls, halogen lights and less than $900. I like a clean contemporary style, I don't generate a lot of smoke and grease when cooking, but still want something effective when I fry. If purchased online, where did you buy it? Thanks!

Have you checked Overstock.com? They have some that seem to fit your requirements. Overstock has an ad on the back of the current Distinctive Kitchen Solutions. If you use promo code 129376 you get an additional 10% off, expires 9/30/08.

I have never bought from Overstock, so I can't comment on their service. Might search the boards for others experiences. HTH

Appliance price is important, but thereÂs one factor a lot of people overlook Â installation cost. It's OK to save a few bucks if your appliances, such as refrigerator, microwave, toaster, do not require professional installation. Unfortunately, with appliances that DO require professional installation (built-in cooktops, wall ovens, and range hoods), in some cases, the installation will cost almost as much as the appliance itself. And itÂs important to do it once and for all. I know this for a fact, because I do kitchen cabinet installations, as well as appliances. Today, thereÂs a lot of junk appliances, especially range hoods, that come from China. You can find a lot of them on eBay Â theyÂre very cheap. One thing they have in common is, completely false specifications, even though the pictures are beautiful. These products are made to sell, not to last. ThereÂs no difference whether itÂs Cavaliere, Spagna, Eurokitchen, Veneto (look, all are Italian names Â why?). The result is the same. IÂm grateful for these companies for keeping me busy, but if you can afford European quality products (not to be confused with "European style"), and you donÂt want to be busy changing it every year or so, thatÂs the way to go.

I would start by asking ModernAire whether they would build one. Other build-to-fit hood manufacturers exist at various levels of style and cost, such as Abakka and Handcrafted Metal. Please revise your side-view drawing to show how much the hanging lamp's shade protrudes into the hood space. Note that the higher the hood aperture is above the cooking surface, the larger the hood aperture has to be (the more overlap of the stove that is required). The crude 3-inch all around rule really only applies close to the 30-inch height unless greasy stuff is only cooked in the middle. Also peninsula setups like yours (and mine) are susceptible to cross drafts moving the rising and expanding cooking plume away from the hood, so even larger apertures may be required. A very thin (layer) of tissue paper hanging from the existing hood (when off) will reveal their presence. What is your make-up air plan? kas

i was writing this on my phone while trotting through home depot! I am shocked you understood my gibberish haha. We are using the rigid duct. Shockingly enough, the hood came with a flex pipe. The wall we are punching through is sheet rock, fiberglass insulation, wood clap board siding, finally composite shingle then outside air. : <at 19 inches = hole punches out to exterior. the duct goes 90' out of it > : : : : chimney / duct for 19 inches straight up : : : : _________ <top of fan portion (the big triangle piece) It is 13 inches from bottom baffle to chimney start> _________________ 28 inches ___stove top____ O O O O The duct is 6 inches - The top fan of the hood is made to receive 6 inch duct so assuming that is the correct diameter. We will be using the high heat tape to connect the duct together unless there is a better method. Thank you for all the input. I just wanted to clarify everything in case anyone else had some tidbits of wisdom. HAHA I couldnt figure out how to edit my original post. not very tech savvy :-P

Might want to check out Futuro hoods. They might all break your budget, but they are fairly reasonable and seem to be a good product.

I will offer a second to Overstock. I have purchased lots from them in the past and had very few problems. I got my single bowl stainless 16 gauge sink for a great price, especially with a 10% off coupon and free shipping.

I once purchased a king size latex mattress topper for $39.00. I saw it in a local bedding store for over $200! Gotta love those prices.

I'm not a representative, I promise, but I can really recommend Luxair:
Following a recommendation from my sister, in London, who has one, I bought an Italian manufactured hood, brand name Luxair. For once, they're MADE in Italy, not just designed there, but made in China, as many other brands are, which was important to me. I also checked out the technical specs via their UK website, which was very informative and helpful.

LuxAir is sold in the US by rangehoodstore.com, based in Brooklyn, New York. Their service was excellent. MY GC liked the hood and confirmed all the stuff needed for installation was included. They have very cool looking glass hoods as well as stainless steel (my sister has the glass one). Mine cost about $750, delivered to CT - a 40" stainless steel hood, which performs well.

venting direct is a good place to look. Kobe have nice hoods with a clean contemporary line and a good price, too.

We bought a Faber hood - the Perla, brand new from an appliance store for $860.

We're getting the Zephyr Savona and it's about $800 (I think - I'd have to double check.)
