Installation Advice for Kohler Stages 45 inch sink
Comments (6)The specs and template came with the sink. Do you have framed or frameless cabinets? I have frameless and I can explain our solution. Your template shows the measurements for the rim of sink. We basically used that measurement to provide a ledge for the rim to sit on and recessed it so it would be flush. DH attached blocking along the entire back side of the cabinet and routed just enough out of the sides of the cabinets and the blocking so the sink rim can sit on it and be flush. I also added several layers of weldbond to all of the cut surfaces (let dry between coats) to seal. For this photo, I moved the sink so you could see the routing. Here's a shot of the sink resting in it's notched support. Be sure the fabricator knows it should be a zero reveal. Hopefully this helps....See MoreFailed Sinksetter Type Sink Installation
Comments (0)This stainless steel sink is failing. Its had a Sinksetter style bracket installed on each end instead of the proper offset sink bracket installed front and back. Stainless steel sinks do not flex front to back, but they do flex side to side. Greatly. Oh, and there's the ever-helpful scrap of plywood screwed to help out. Polyseamseal or another brand of latex caulk has been used instead of 100% silicone. Fortunately, I'm repairing this before this leaker has rusted any reinforcing rods in the top, causing them to expand and split the stone. Closeup of grossness. Sometimes you get more than just sink problems. The flexible drain line on the right is code-approved nowhere, but the real danger is the unvented trap. Improperly placed, the Studor is only venting the disposal drain. An unvented trap can evacuate, allowing poison sewer gas into living space. This kills several people a year, usually infants. This has uninformed do-it-yourselfer written all over it. The Studor is placed as high as it can go and in front of each trap. No flexidoodle in sight. I secured the sink with the pictured Hercules Universal Sink Harness. Sorry I didn't get a finished sink pic, but believe me, it looked good....See MoreIs it normal / ok to install sink (Kohler stages 45") with no clips
Comments (18)My stages 45 was installed by routing ledge for the sink in the plywood subtop so it is squeezed between the stone and plywood. The sink ledge also rests on the divider between two cabinets in the cutout part of my IKEA cabinet. I measured it to be precise. Then after all that, it was strapped by a Hercules system. The strap is only $4. What you have doesn't seem adequate....See Morecontemporary drop-in sink with quartz
Comments (18)I disagree that the unwashed masses would not notice that a sink is not undermount. If the neighborhood warrants quartz counters, a significant percentage of prospective buyers would notice it and find it not as appealing as undermount. Before I knew anything about kitchen trends, I knew that I hated wiping down a counter with a sink that was not undermount. But as Sophie wrote, renovating to sell within a short period of time is probably not a financial jackpot absent unusual circumstances or ones’s ability to remodel at significantly more savings than the average person. I had friends who did high end remodels but they were both realtors who scoured their market for undervalued homes in upscale neighborhoods and essentially had a crew of people that they kept busy so there were no surprises in terms of attempting to find labor or spending endless time researching the best prices and of course they were contractors for their projects and got the benefit of those kinds of discounts....See Morekcorn
