Need another set of eyes for backsplash decision

My DH is out of town, backsplash is being installed. Installer is very attentive to detail and doing what I asked and listening to this Loco kitchen lady.

Under the MW cabinet the wall is not true. We were wondering whether to tile the return wall or not -- I made the executive decision to tile it, not knowing the back wall wasn't straight. So, the tile on the return wall needed to be cut somewhat skewed. I only notice it when I am looking at it thru the pass thru window, in the adjoining room. When I 'm in the kitchen I don't notice it as much.

I am thinking about having them take off the tile off the return wall and just plastering and painting. I need some eyes to tell me what would look better. Here is a down and dirty view thru the pass through.

Am I overthinking this -- is it as noticeable as I think it is? I am off to get some extra tile (yet another wee hiccup) and hopefully somebody can help me out this morning.

Hats off to you DIY tilers. DH and I would not have been able to handle these wee hiccups.

I stared at your picture for awhile and still couldn't find the skewed tiles. I don't think it's noticeable. From my experience I can see very slight imperfections in my kitchen but when looking at the whole kitchen other people don't notice it at all. For instance, a sliver of my angled plugmold is visible if you're under 5'3. It's almost the same color as the backsplash. No one has made a comment on it - but I do occasionally "see" it. When you're focused on one thing it may be noticeable but when looking at the whole kitchen you can't see it.

So, I guess I know why I am paralyzed with this decision. I don't really know how I want the kitchen to look. I do love the idea of it being sparkly and stuff, but I also love the idea of the juxtapostion of the modern and the glam. I hate tests, can someone take the Sweeby test for me? I think we may have figured out the solution to the fact that there are no bullnoses on the short side of the Italian tile available, so that is not stopping me anymore. I appreciate all of your responses, each one of them is a valid point and they all echo the thoughts in my head. I too think either one would work. I guess this is so hard because, it's not like a chandy--if it looks bad, ditch it and move on. It's the flippin' backsplash, it's attached to the house and there is no way we are replacing it on a whim. I just don't know what to do. I guess if I am not doing anything fancy behind the range, then the Italian tile would surely look great. Oh boy, this is killer. I wonder if they will allow me to order a square foot of each one and try it out. Probably have to order a minimum quantity. If anybody has any more thoughts, please feel free to give them to me. Jeanteach--not close enough to CT to buy tile, I'm outside Philly. Thanks for the information though. Suzanne1003--how the heck did you find that? The photo is so much better than the one on Mission Tile's site, that I do believe it might be too ornate for my kitchen (If I think shadow lines from a slight bevel on the Italian tiles are too much)-- I couldn't tell before that they are individual tiles, very nice though. Joaniepoanie: I like your idea of pulling out the gray. The Meram blanc has a lot of gray streaks but very light. That's why I liked it. I need to check out some grayish tile this week. Sixtyohno: thanks for the suggestion. I just can't seem to find the right tile...at least not yet! I'm sure with some help from all of you experts, I'll have a backsplash before too long :). I like the versailles pattern very much: the multi color helps give a balance of colors going on: did you know you can get quartzite 4x4 6x6 and 12x12 in different colors? Quartzite is stunning material! I do see it, but I think a little distraction will fix it. Do you plan to put something on the counter against that wall? if so, I think it won't be noticeable.

I think you see it because it's your kitchen and you are focused on the tile for now. Once you are finished and you have things on the counters, I bet no one else will notice.

I agree with Susanka. Just put a crock with some cooking tools there, and no one will ever notice.

I don't think it is noticeable either. If it really bothers you could you set something decorative on the counter to draw attention away from the wall? I really think it is fine; even new homes have walls that are wacky and issues to hide.

Sis2sis -- it is Daltile Modern Dimensions 4 1/2 by 8 1/2, Artic White matte.

Hoping to get the paper peeled off of the Sumi glass tile today, and if that happens will post a teaser picture. My DH is OOT and dying for me to send him a picture of the paperless tile.
