New flooring/height relative to adjacent room

Our kitchen floor (vinyl) is more or less level with the hardwood we installed in the dining room, maybe 1/8 lower. The entrance to the kitchen in our townhouse is through the dining room.

If we replace the kitchen floor with ceramic tile, I figure it would likely be nearly 3/4 inch higher than the hardwood due to the cement backer board and the tile itself.

Or am I thinking about this wrong?
