Cabinet Latches - Yes or too much work?
Comments (61)I can only say that we have had the Rejuvenation latches for 12 years and I still love-love-love them. No split wood or any other issues, and two of the cabinets get daily use. Ours are on flush inset cabinetry (and we also have one on our bathroom cabinet, with no issues there either). I will say that lining up the latches is important and takes some precision, so I can imagine a GC not being super excited about that. But our cabinetmaker had no problem getting it right, and that's not specific to Rejuvenation's latch design. ETA: We have solid poplar frames with MDF panel inserts for painted cabinets. The material could make a difference?...See MoreGeeking out over cab construction
Comments (48)"But while reading, I noted some people imply 2cm stone needs support from the subtop plywood. I wonder about that. I don't know enough about stone to know if it needs the support nor enough about plywood to know if it's effective in providing a meaningful amount." With the exception of fragile stones, full plywood underlayment is filler under 2cm stone and is unnecessary for support when the stone is properly installed on leveled cabinets. It is a waste of material as strip underlayment would work better in reducing the amount of dissimilar material contact. Try getting stone to lie flat on cheap CDX. See Chapter 3. Check appliance specifications when using 2cm without a built-up edge. Sometimes the feet on a slide-in range won't go low enough to eliminate an unacceptably large gap between the stone top and the bottom of the cooktop flange. Mitering stone edges is relatively expensive and should only be utilized on stones with lots of movement. A built-up edge on the right stone is more inconspicuous....See MoreIKEA Kitchen Sale 2018?
Comments (170)I got 20% off (tiered, based on amount only) in summer 2014. We did happen to buy one appliance, a dishwasher, but it wasn't required to get the full discount. It was also the last year before they switched from Akurum to Sektion, which may have had a lot to do with it. I haven't watched *every* sale since then, but I have been pretty aware of most of them, and have purchased during sales twice in the last two years, since we moved to our new house and started renovating. It has maybe hit 20% once, but if it did, it was with gift cards, not an instant discount. And I'm not totally sure it did, to be honest. I think 15% is about as high as they seem to be going now. No appliance purchases have been required in the sales I purchased, though. (Summer 2017, and again in fall 2017, when we got a retroactive price adjustment for quartz countertops we purchased in Sept.) We purchased more for our final project just a couple of weeks ago, and will be hitting them up for another price adjustment as soon as the sale starts. I'm in the States....See MoreIKEA Drawer Within Drawer Magic: Pull Just Once, Reach Either Drawer!
Comments (24)It works! I saw this thread last week, and decided to plan in some of those hidden drawers into our kitchen plan. DH liked the idea but needed a bit of convincing evidence, so this morning we went to Ikea. We brought some masking tape and a couple of flat magnets and asked one of the kitchen staffers for an ok. We tried your "fix" in one of the showrooms, using the masking tape to secure the magnets. After changing out one of the magnets for a stronger one and after a try or two, YES: we were able to predict which drawer would be visible when opened. It really did feel like magic. The kitchen staff and other customers were impressed too and everybody wanted to give it a try as well. Lots of laughter and oohing and aahing. We had quite the little magic show at Ikea today! :-) Thanks Pippa for sharing this....See Morebrightm
