Great yellow & white kitchen with rubber black & white flooring

Saw this today in my search for using recycled rubber flooring for our exercise room. I didn't know it could also be used elsewhere.

I LOVE this kitchen! Not a fan of pot hangers over islands but the rest of it is great. I wonder how you could get this floor to look good transitioning to the rest of the dining/living room space. (For now, we plan on some kind of wood).

Someday I will have a black and white kitchen floor. I will have to remember about rubber tiles.

Beware of All Marble if they are tied into Marble.com. We have one of their sites here in my town, all I can say is eeewww, sceezy experience there. Eeeewww, can't tell you how bad it was to shop there, can't describe. Shop around, find a REAL granite place. Marble.com wanted almost 3 times what we paid and it was the yuckiest experience of my very long shopping career - won't give you actual names of granite unless you really push, have to fill out a form and sit through a VERY long sales pitch before they will take you into their granite 'showroom', can't just walk around, need a salesperson who shows you the samples that you pick out along their wall, and this of course, only after you have signed their sales agreement outlining payments which are out of line versus other places. They have lots of granite available, but all as a number and a colored price - you have to know your granite to price-shop there since most don't have their granties numbered instead of named. Yes, tehy can get granite in your house incredibly fast, but at a HUGE mark-up! Sceevy, sceevy, sceevy if it is the same company that has places in NJ, NY, and, CT.... We visited a location in CT - a true buyer beware situtation if it is....

I do not know how the oil rubbed bronze finish will be affected. Our has the dark brown patina finish as you can see but the outside of the sink will probably never change in color because no water or other juices touch it. The inside of our sink can get black rings if we leave dishes or pots and pans in it overnight where it is wet or if there were food juices in the sink. But, that goes away after 2-3 days. We love the sink and it is soooo easy to keep clean. Basically rinse it out or put dish soap in it. You can also basically 'seal' the sink with wax...that would also limit the 'patina-ing' of your sink. Good luck and if you have any questions, let me know. And for louisianaPurchase--the antiqued countertop is very easy to keep clean. Fingerprints don't show up anywhere near as much as I thought. In fact, hardly at all unless someone has very greasy fingers. It is just a quick wipedown...the antiqued quality has probably made all the difference with that.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are getting closer. We took at look at the additional suggestions (SW Blonde, Ivorie and BM Shelburne Buff HC 28) but they didn't make the cut for what we are looking for. The good news is I think we are down to two (or at least that is all my DW wants to deal with at this point): BM Precious Ivory 185 (a little tan and slightly darker) and BM Soleil AF-330 (a little sunny). The Precious Ivory probably does have a better chance of complementing some of the ubatuba highlights, but I like the 'sunny' part of Soleil, especially since we have little direct light into our kitchen. Oh, and there might be some BM Popcorn Kernel 310 in there but I can't tell if the kids like the color or the name.

Trebruchet, do they install or only sell? There are two companies listed in Iowa who have the material. I will email both of them. Can you make a guess as to cost for a roughly 12x24 roof? I recently got sticker shock for spray foaming my well pit, 3 walls 4x4x5 tall! Apparently, getting here was most of the cost. Most of the time living in the wilderness is fine until I need something I can't buy at Menard's and haul in my Ranger.

Love the idea, hate the reality. My first house had a black and white tile kitchen floor. All the darker dirt shows on the white, all the light dust shows on the black. Unless you are a phenomenal housekeeper, the floor always looks dirty-yuck!

Yes, I have read many times that neither the black nor white ever look clean, but I want it anyways. It can't be much worse than the *white grout* the PO's put in our kitchen floor.

I love that floor. It's practical, inexpensive, and yes like everything else, it gets dirty. But, easily maintained. Rubber floor tiles run about $4 psf. You can spend more or less dependent on the actual material. Here is a case where you could easily go to Home Depot for choices.

I have a black and white tile floor in my laundry room and dark hickory floors everywhere else on that floor....they look great together. I will caution you, however, that my laundry room floor gets a lot of light from a large window and I am constantly cleaning it. We do use it as a space to feed our dog, so that may be part of the problem. But if you don't get lots of light on the floor and if you become friends with a micro-fiber mop, i think it will look fabulous.

This is why most black-and-white floors in the past were speckled. They still made a strong crisp pattern. To me, this floor looks nice but too static, all that energy held in a motionless grid. I'd want it laid diagonally.

I used to have a white Pergo floor in my kitchen (the ice floe). Yes, it did show everything, but I would quickly spot clean. Since you couldn't ignore any spill or dirt, the floor was always clean. Now my oak floor shows no dirt ever, but it bothers me that there is hidden dirt.

I also love the idea of the black and white, but it might be a little too assertive for me. And as a previous poster mentioned (sorry, I'm in preview mode and can't see the posts), I would prefer it laid out diagonally.

Thanks for all the great tips, everyone.

My kitchen space is probably too small to carry off a black & white floor. Although, I do love the retro look.

Another inspiration kitchen is oldhouse1's...I love the colors and this goes with my original intent of some kind of wood flooring.

The yellow is BM's Windham Cream. I'd love to know what she used for the cabs. My dining & living area is adjacent so I'm wondering what colors would look good transitioning into the living area. How do you separate the colors?
