White kitchen, white and blue tile-- help with countertop color
Comments (35)On the wait until later train of thought: in the time between now and when you'll reno this kitchen, hang out here and find out all kinds of interesting stuff. You'll definitely not want to repeat the electrical switches and outlets which stick out like sore (& mismatched!) thumbs on the tile backsplash. You'll find alternatives here. You'll probably want your new cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling - check out others' kitchens to be sure. You can participate in agonizing over which granite, or maybe quartz, or soapstone, or laminate? Is there room for a pantry somewhere? You'll find things that others' do that you love and never would have thought of and things that you'll *know* you'd never want in your kitchen. For your husband to answer the question about why you'd want to replace those cabinets, there was a thread recently about WHEN it was time. I've linked it in case you missed it or want him to read it. Here is a link that might be useful: Time to replace cabinets?...See MoreWhite/light countertop and black induction cooktop
Comments (11)Thank you everyone. We are taking the plunge and getting the luce di luna quartz on the island with the Miele induction cooktop in black. Our island cabinets are a very dark stained cherry and our permimeter will be white with a dark green granite countertop. All of your kitchens are so beautiful and so different. Ice, your contemporary look is great. Although it's not the traditional one that I'm doing it all fits together and I'm trying to have faith that my vision of a traditional kitchen will look as pulled together as your contemporary one. Redroze, I can't believe your lanterns---they are almost exactly what I have picked for my kitchen---two and not three as everyone recommends. The two just seemed right in my space. lsandler, your kitchen is so cozy looking even though the space looks big and I like the way the cooktop looks on your granite. All of the advice has been encouraging and now I'll just hold my breath until it's all put together. Pictures someday but I'm afraid all the subs will be on party time until January. Thanks again....See MoreRecommendations for black countertop and white cabinets
Comments (6)Compared to most inspiration pics I see here, mine is not “on trend” but I don’t really care, as my 1970s contemporary home is “dated” - which to me means it’s on the verge of “cool again” lol. Like MCM was dated, until it became popular again. Anyway, I have three types of black counters in my home and love them all. Volga Blue in kitchen, Black Galaxy in one bath and a dark soapstone in the other bath. The soapstone is the most soft, subtle, and neutral of the three, and I think it would work with about any decor. I haven’t had it long so can’t speak of long term wear and tear, but it’s in a gently used guest bath so hasn't really been put under any durability test yet. Black Galaxy is a subtle bling, with tiny copper and silver flecks, looks great with a copper sink. It is super durable/indestructible. The Volga Blue I chose is also tough but definitely more dynamic. Reads mostly black at first glance but has a light show within of blue, blue-green, silvery mica and a little bronze too, when viewed at different lights and angles. If you know you love the look of black counters, don’t let the gurus of style around this site talk you out of it!...See MoreHelp: white cabinet paint _ Simply White vs White Dove vs Cloud White
Comments (6)I would bring sample paint chips to where your slab is (paint chips or sample cabinet doors with your chosen paint on it). The lighting will most likely be different there than your home light, but it should give you a good idea of how the colors blend together. I would also try to get a sample of your slab and bring it home along with your sample paint chips/cabinet doors. I would not automatically paint your cabinets the color of your home doors and trim because unless you’ve matched up your slab to the color of your home trim, you could be making a huge mistake. It’s a lot easier to paint the trim in your kitchen to match up with your cabs and slab than to have to repaint your cabinets should you find that when the slab goes in there’s a terrible clash....See MoreBunny
