Ok... may consider the greens but not until I run out of options. ;) May tile backsplash at later date for attempting to keep kitchen remodel on fast track and on a penny pincher budget. Originally wanted white cabs, beach glass or irridescent glass tile mosaic backsplash, cobalt blue walls or countertops. Couldn't figure out how to make that work with rest of home and then got an excellent last-min. deal on the cabs and granite, couldn't pass up! Had to change my color scheme. :(

I'm always going to vote for blue! I love cobalt but it is an intense color, perhaps best used as an accent, and your kitchen might end up feeling too dark with your darker cabs. Check out jaedward's kitchen on the 80% finished post -- her blue paint is a tad lighter than cobalt but very, very pretty. I think you'd have to be very careful with mixing yellowish toned paints with your red-toned cabs. You can also try finding sombreuil mongrel's bathroom (bathroom or decorating forum) for a drop dead gorgeous cobalt upper wall/white tile lower wall combo.

What would you think of choosing a color that would make a good backdrop and complement to cobalt blue accents, and then bringing those in? Since kitchens can be pretty busy visually, maybe that camel you like? Or another color harmonizing with the cherry cabinets that would help them relax calmly into their new home?

Truly sold on camel color but can see a tan on yellow/gold side, as well. I wonder if BM Desert tan is too light or Duron tobacco road too dark. Thought maybe accents with lighting shade colors. The drop down soffit with tray ceiling, may be a place I could play with the blue. Currently it holds two long florescent lights that were covered by ceiling tiles; horrible lighting. Will be taking out florescents, framing inside of tray with white crown, ropelights behind for uplight glow. Some kind of rectangular fixture for center. Would also allow me to tie in with cobalt/sapphire blue mini-pendants above peninsulas and above sink. Kitchen backsplash area is only isolated space thought maybe I could use the blue on the backsplash, but maybe instead of cobalt, something similar to brighter navy; camelhair or tobacco road on all other walls. Love these blues, I can't get them out of my mind but fraid of blue in kitchen and afraid of color in general; trying to get away from my realtor beige mentality. Also like thought of using yellow/orange mini-pendants but if I go too sunny or orangy of yellow on walls, we are back to screaming again. Tried to find a visualizer online that had cherry cabs and giallo ornamental-like counter to work from. SM's is limited to some light light brown cabs but a one color countertop, I believe. Hard to get an idea, but closest one I could find. Need to see the colors butting up to the warmth of both the cherry cabs and creamy counters, that are speckled with chestnut, taupe, tan, creme and merlot.

I too am a major supporter of blue and adore cobalt blue. I can see it working very nicely as has been suggested as an accent color. (like maybe accent pieces in a backsplash, maybe in light fixtures and of course in decorative pieces on the counter tops and table). I think your intitial idea of beige/camel family for walls would be great- along with the blues as strong accents. I do think that I would generally prefer one consistent backsplash maaybe because I am pretty uncreative...I am not real great at visualizing but I don't think I would care for the drop down soffit being blue. I would go with simple walls (beige camel family) and use the backsplash and lighting for the blues as accents ..

I wanted to try and overlay it but I don't have a photoshop program. Tried to rig it up but it won't work. Just an idea that might go with your cabs/granite and has some blues for you to pick up.

This photo might help you visualize. I have New Venetian Gold granite and my cabinets are a similar finish to yours. The paint color is BM Desert Tan. Hope this helps.

Wow. I think that looks lovely mokeyjac. And remodelfla -- I think that although that slate backsplash has the colors and goes well, the pattern (to me-- of course) seems too busy for the granite. Obviously, I am curious what others think especially if it gets photoshopped or if someone has that combo, I would readily admit my poor visualization skills.

My mother's kitchen has the same color cabinets as yours, white appliances and Colonial Gold granite (same color family as Giallo Orn.). She went with a deep golden tan color, BM Decatur Buff. It really makes the cabs and granite pop. Sorry I don't have a pic.

OK, attempted the golds/yellows/closest to the camel cashmere coat color I am trying to mirror; however, we are now screaming gold/yellow. Still not excited. Red undertones of cherry-stained maple cabinets and Gold/Yellow overtones in giallo ornamental granite; basically, too much gold/yellow going on in this kitchen. Now think I need to head for the greys, taupes and mushroom colors will be next attempt. Colors on scored sheetrock sampled:
- BM Desert Tan (purest/bright/lightest of the bunch)
- BM chestertown buff
- BM shelburne buff (leaned toward beige but still too yellow)
- BM waterbury cream (too green/yellow)
- SW Blonde (brighter yellow/gold)
- SW Restrained Gold (better, but still too much gold)
- SW Camelback (Close to the Camel color attempted but again, too much yellow oxide)
- SW mixed Duron Tobacco Road (Too yellow for kitchen but could use if adjoining area.
