Help me with Blue dining room / mahogany furniture
Comments (17)Blue and mahogany can be gorgeous, but I think you need more blue -- a deeper blue. Your paint is very pretty, but the soft contrast looks more like a BR or bath room to me and it pretty much rules out the red for me. Look at something in the nature of the blue in that second photo Annie posted -- maybe even deeper, but not a navy blue. You want more contrast between the white and the blue, but not a sharp contrast or you start getting nautical. Then use the softer gold of the LR wall color as an accent -- your drapes (gold silk or velvet would be yummy) and as one of the colors in a rug. , Look at blues that work with the existing color if you want to keep it in the foyer.-- take a darker version of that color. Looks like you have grey or blue drapes in the LR, and if you like blue enough to paint your walls blue, I bet you have some other touches. Worst case, you might want to add an accessory or two. Gold and silver both work great with blue. Don't be afraid to mix them. It can be very elegant, especially with your crystal. I would do silver or crystal candlesticks. Since fall is coming up, why not keep your eye out for some mini pumpkins for your bowl? Change it seasonally or leave it plain. Crystal is beautiful on it's own. The dark gold tablecloth may look better with a deeper blue, but it is too dark with the light blue and I don't think it shows off the crystal well. Bare wood, a white or cream table cloth or runner might be better choices....See Moretraditional blue paint color found in Southern formal rooms?
Comments (8)Ah, yes. I know that color, and the best ones I've ever seen are custom colors. Not the answer you were looking for! Look at Sherwin Wiilliams' Mount Vernon series. "Sweet Water" and "Silver Spoon" are possible contenders. Pratt & Lambert's "Bracken Architrave Blue Verditer Light" from the Williamsburg collection is a contender. If those are a bit too saturated for you, look at Martin Senour's "Alps" (1086-D), and the Sherwin Williams strip that has SW 7128 through 7134, particularly "Water Squirt." SW 6477 "Tidewater" and 6763 "Retiring Blue" might also be in the running. Donald Kaufman #37 might fit, and #57 is paler but without much of the robin's egg tone. Blue is challenging, and very dependent on your light, which I am sure you know. You might like to go on line, look up things like "Historic Charleston Interiors" or "Virginia Plantation Houses" or some such thing, look at the interiors, and if there is a color that is what you are wanting, call them up. Whoever runs the houses will likely be happy to tell you what the color is....See MorePaint for Blue Carpet in Living Room/Dining Room/Hallway/Stairs
Comments (36)Take a look at SW Restrained Gold and Blonde. Those are nice honey golds without being too brassy. Glidden Water Chestnut is also nice with blue. As for the stone, it may work with a new paint color, but if not go neutral with it and let that be the accent wall. You don't want to have competing focal points. The carpet is such a striking color that you may not need an accent wall though. Perhaps just a nice large piece of art or some really dynamic fabric. I would definitely paint the woodwork and paint the adjoining dining area the same color. You can set a nice tablescape with colorful place settings for some pizzazz. And i would absolutely change the light fixture in there. There are lots of affordable options out there. I attached some fabric swatch ideas using restrained gold and blonde. Enjoy decorating your new place....See Morehelp with rug/pillows. Afraid of bright colors.
Comments (16)I feel as if you have the guts to punch it up with the rug I linked...You could do a teal cushion on the gold chair (fab color combo!).... I believe you can return the rug to Target and if you're hesitant, then buy the smallest to test the colors so it's easier to bring back... Also it brings in the same color family that's going to be in the dining room (depending on if it looks more blue or green when it's done being painted--sometimes you can't tell until it's up on the walls)...See Moresiasconset
