Hood vent duct meets 2x4 in wall

Hello. I currently have a downdraft vent that makes a 90 degree turn and vents horizontally out the side of the house after about 20 feet. I would like to switch to a hood vent using the same duct work. Right in the middle of the space where the hood will go is a 2x4 (behind picture of farm). Assuming the 2x4 was not there, I am thinking I can get a rear exhaust hood, do a 90 degree turn down and run a rectangular duct down inside the wall and connect back up with the downdraft duct work in the base cabinet after two more 90 degree turns. Going vertical through the roof is not an option. Back to the 2x4. Not sure what to do with that. Maybe I can get a custom hood that has the exhaust on one side rather than in the middle of the hood and maybe that will clear the 2x4. Otherwise, I am left deciding between keeping the downdraft or using a recirculating hood, and between the two, I think the downdraft would be better as it vents outside. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
