Any regrets doing full granite backsplash?

I'm considering doing my backsplash in the same granite as the countertops. One, because I don't want to put another burden on my husband and me (just want to be DONE) and 2) I do think it would look nice. Anyone regretted this decision?

Another consideration. . .my perimeter cabs are hickory stained cherry and my island is black. I thought about doing black galaxy on the perimeter and Santa Cecelia on the island, but I wondered how that huge black backsplash would look? Do you think it would be too much black? Thoughts of all that black make me think going with Typhoon Bordeaux on perimeter/island and backsplashes might be the better route.

I have a full granite backsplash and love it, but it is in a light color.

I think black backsplash and counters on the perimeter would be too much black.

If you are in decision overload, you can always put off the backsplash decision for a few months.

I can see why it might be advisable to remove the left/rt portions of tile, but I would be inclined to wait until ithe kitchen is completed before deciding. If, as your gut tells you, it "needs" to come down, nothing is really lost except a little more time with it up. Perhaps knowing you are not "locked-in" or committed to it, will help give the perspective to view it more objectively while deciding for sure. This way you will not only have the chance to see it with everything else in place, but you will also have the opportunity to get used to it, before deciding if you truly dislike it, or just haven't gotten used to it being there. As subtle (in color) as our tile is, after months of looking at white painted Sheetrock, it still looked "different" and stood out when we looked at our kitchen. Once we became accustomed to it, we couldn't imagine our walls without it. That's how I am with many things--after living with a blank wall or empty space for any period of time, even a long awaited piece of furniture or decor item jumps out at me, and almost seems like too much, until I get used to the vacant space being filled. Thanks for the compliments on our backsplash Laura and andreak100! It's the Opera Glass tile from Artistic Tile (Stilatto pattern) in Wolfgang White. It does read greenish-blue(-grey) in certain lights or times of day. We had to think about that one while deciding if we wanted to use it, and obviously decided to go for it! Good luck Laura! We also have a wine cellar Crystal so I tend to stand and look at the view and drink wine :oP That's the cartoon version of our view, but if you look at the pic with the stove, on the right is the side of that window and you can see it's pretty much the same view. We're about three stories up above the lake, but the house is right on the lake (it's a five level townhouse). We have that view from two sides of the place. That view is really how I got myself into this remodel mess LOL The place was a vintage cheap 1980's townhouse...and I'm turning it into something else I hope..just because of that stupid view we HAD to have! So this thread now comes into play as we continue...I'm thinking of doing a full marble backsplash in the bathroom after seeing a couple of them here. Some of the lovely curved transitions from short backsplash to high are pretty fabulous.

sskit, I agree with Live Wire, while the concept is not new, hanging large format 2cm stone on a vertical wall should be taken seriously. Any well thought-out stone installer will know to ask the right questions and they will make certain other tradesmen are not left holding the bag after the stone is installed. Just make sure the obvious utilities are accessible and the rough in is complete and most importantly identify who is responsible for each task. Another option for the stone installer is to install mechanical clips around the exhaust opening. ItÃ¯Â¿Â½s another way to help pin the stone to the wall without having to worry about hiding the anchors. Something similar to Hohmann and Barnard #432 would work great (again I am sure your stone installer can also provide alternate options). All the best Caayu

Bill has posted some pictures of this before. I found some in what I believe to be a portfolio of his. Personally I believe it can work, but I much prefer to tile the whole backsplash and did just that in our remodel. My contractor tried to get me to do the 4 inch only or tile above it, but I didn't like the look. There is one advantage to the 4" backsplash. Granite/quartz creates a very tight dirt and liquid (essentially) impervious corner where the wall and counter meet. If you use tile that corner won't be quite as straight, neat or "impervious", but I don't think it's much of an issue. - Jim Here is a link that might be useful: Some 4

I know the majority of people on this site go for a different backsplash than the counter but i still love my full granite backsplash (5 years later!!!). I was the the same, just wanted it done and for me it was safe.

Our cabs are hickory in a spice finish. Only regret is maybe i would have went with more of a contrast from the granite and cabinets but all an all was very happy with the outcome. We have since made the center island a cream colored beadboard island which gives me the contrast i was wanting.

Absolutely lovely granite. Thanks for posting pics. I remember your kitchen from previous posts, but don't remember seeing the granite backsplash.

I think you are correct, my floor is dark and my cabs are dark, I'm thinking going with something light would give me the contrast I seek.

absolutely no regrets, nearly 2 years later. the best decision we made, for sure! see the link for pix. easy to clean, clean cohesive look, and it releved us from backsplash decision agony that seems to plague so many folks.

i would reverse your granite combo - put Santa Cecelia on the perimeter/backsplash.

i would not put off backsplash if you want it to be a full granite one - you want the slabs to be close to each other/from the same lot, otherwise they may clash.

Sorry, I just saw your post. For both of your reasons 1 & 2 and also that I do a lot of stirfry and other potentially messy cooking, I knew I wanted at least full granite behind the cooktop. I found a granite I loved & went with it everywhere. Kitchen's still not complete, but you get the idea. So far very happy with the decision!

If you do not plan to stay in this house indefinitely, you may regret it. I would be turned off by a massive black backsplash and think others might be too.
