Wow. Is the tile in the kitchen actual tile or is it that plastic tile? And what are the kitchen cabinets made out of? Never seen those before. The scalloped beam and doorway are wild. I'm guessing it was built for this family that's selling it?

It looks like the tile in the kitchen is plastic. The kitchen cabinets are metal with sliding glass doors.

The archways are original or an early remodel to the house, I have seen these all over that neighborhood. This is a very typical row house of the area--so while the kitchen and bath were both done for the current owners (or their parents) it was done in the prevailing neighborhood style.

It looks like it's a decent size for a row home!

Yes, the 4x4 tile is incredibly stretched in some of the photos. Its a medium-narrow row house.

It's not a bad size, I think the whole house is about 1200 sq feet on two floors. This is sometimes what you get on three floors of super narrow house.

The asking price is under $200K
15 years ago you could have gotten something like this for about $40K. The neighborhood hasn't gotten better or worse, it's just that interest in the area is increasing.

Wow! That home has a lot of possibilities, even with the archways. I might keep the one in the kitchen, but the living/dining room one is almost Disney. (Which normally I like! LOL) But it's almost caricature...the little one in the kitchen and over the window...those I could work with :)

Once you mentioned it was a row house, the whole place fell into perspective. We don't have houses like this in my neck of the woods - I didn't even know there was such a thing until the last few years - , but now I've seen a bunch of them on the HGTV shows that work on Canadian houses. This one is really well done - I think the rugs/runners on the lovely wood floors really help it flow from room to room without seeming like a skinny church hall. The "arches" add character, but definitely funky.

The kitchen was a shock though. It's kind of like the Jetsons of the 60s meet European modern meet Mrs. Cleaver. Nothing a good makeover couldn't fix. Is that the only bathroom in this house? If so, well, it will cut down on remodeling expenses to only have to do one.

Really? People want green plastic tile? If so, my apologies. I'm also not big on metal cabinets. I'm a believer in making your kitchen match the rest of your house and I didn't really think it "went with." Could definitely be my inexperience showing with this type of house.

P.S. The thing that sends me up is folks who look at a lovely piece of wood furniture and say, "Just paint it." Yikes!!

I think it would be the rare buyer who did not redo the kitchen and bath. This may be the first "modern" kitchen this house ever had so it may be as appropriate as anything would be. But, I've been in houses where people left things like the tile alone, just because they thought it was interesting. You could probably do a new kitchen that referenced this look, and utilize some of the metal cabinets in addition to new ones.

In any case, I am not considering buying it, I just thought it was an interesting, relatively intact property.

The house is on a 15 foot lot, so 14 wide inside...not bad for neighborhood.

The bathroom is on the second floor. Sometimes there is also a toilet in the basement. It may have taken over some space from the back bedroom, because there is a cantilevered addition to the back bedroom. I have seen this kind of addition before:

We had that tile in a bathroom when I was a kid, although ours was gray. If you stared at it hard enough the shapes started to move.

I appreciate the fact that, from the pictures, it looks like the house has been well maintained. I would want to redo kitchen and bath for sure, but I love to see that people care for their home. That's a big plus for me. I wouldn't hesitate to take on a house that has been neglected----we've done it before and ended up with good results---but I enjoy seeing homes that have been maintained, even if not particularly updated.
