Comments (18)Nunyabiz: Never thought of that- it is a great idea. We do not have a Keurig though. My husband would like one but I don't really like how big they are and I am a tea drinker so coffee is not my thing. The idea for the instant hot started when my friend told me about it and then I mentioned it to my husband. He said "if we had one would that mean no more tea kettle on the stove?" I said yes. He is the cook in the family and hates the kettle on the stove. Then we decided to forgo the water dispenser on the refrig door for asthetic reasons and I figured I could get one at the sink which filtered water. Now I am searching for the best one to give me hot water, and cold filtered water as well. If I cannot find a GOOD one that does both I will resort to only cold filtered water at the sink. I do not want to buy plastic water bottles and that water is not regulated anyway so the quality isn't much better than tap. I don't really want to go back to a brita or Pure filter in a gallon container since it is a pain and everyone always forgets or does not want to change the filter. Any recommendations for either the Hot and cold filtered water or just a cold filtered water? I do not mean a whole house system or RO system. Just an under the sink for drinking water with a dispenser at the kitchen sink....See Morewatts instant hot water dispensor
Comments (17)frodo, i can tell you for a fact that my house it takes 4 mintues to get hot to the MB tub/shower. the sinks in the MB never get hot unless both are on and then it takes about 7 minutes! my problem is that the hot is 3/4" from teh WH to the hall bath, then 1/2" back to the MB. so i have 100ft of 3/4", then 50ft of 1/2". the house is older slab on grade and the pipes are NOT insulated. so by the time the water makes it to the rear sinks the slab/ground has already cooled it! this sucks when i am trying to shave. of course during summer the hot water does nto cool as bad, but it still takes 6-7 minutes to get hot to teh sinks in teh MB. and yes, those pipe lengths are correct. my house is shaped like a [_] and the heater is on one short end with the MB on the other. i have seriously considered trenching across the back yard to run a new line!...See MoreWhy do you need instant hot water at the sink?
Comments (22)There are many teas that are more optimally brewed at temps below boiling. Especially green tea. Just had to throw that out there. I didn't put one in, and sometimes I regret it. Grew up with one, my parents' current kitchen has one. Mom's favorite discovery was that if she was measuring something sticky - say molasses or corn syrup for a recipe - she'd quickly run the measuring cup under the hot tap to make it nice and warm then the molasses or honey would slide right out of the cup. But, she initially installed it for easy tea, cocoa and that type of thing. With a temp set at 200* it was definitely fine for brewing a cup of tea. She used it for all the above mentioned options as well. Quick rinsing and refreshing pasta among them. My dad is now a widower and will use it to get a quick start on pasta water. Fill the pot from the insta-hot, put it on the stove and it is boiling that much faster, almost instantly. Safety. That really depends on how often your child is playing at the sink where you would install it. They might now come with safety features. It is certainly hot enough to cause a burn. Depending on the ages of the kids, I think they could be taught pretty quickly not to mess with it....See Moreinstant hot water dispenser recommendation
Comments (6)Mine is a Little Gourmet by Mountain Plumbing. I love it, but somewhere in the 3rd year, we had to cut off the end of the rubbery tube that delivers the very hot water to the tap. The combination of very hot water (we keep it turned all the way or nearly all the way up), tube stretched over the connection and then the little wiggle caused by water pressure on and off eventually caused a leak right at the connection (sudden drop in water pressure at the tap). We had enough line that we cut it off and reconnected (2 minute fix), but I plan to go look for a stainless or other line that will hold up better for the long haul. Kind of like the installers suggest changing to a stainless supply line on your washer and dryer. If I had known that going into the installation, I'd have had no issues with it at all. Knowing it now, I'd still get the same unit -- just look for a better hot water line to install it with or replace after a year or two....See Morenancyfay
