Faucet Placement - Help Needed!

I'm putting in granite counters with a granite composite undermount sink. My faucet came today and it is much larger than I thought it would be. I think that if it is centered on the sink, it will look out of proportion (and will stick way up into the window). I would like to set it in the left hand corner, with the lever just to the right of that. Then, I would like to put the soap dispenser in the right hand corner. Any opinions? The template maker is coming tomorrow! Thanks!

Is your sink a single or double bowl...

How tall is your faucet? Mine is 14 inches tall and is in front of the window.. I think it looks fine. However I have a double bowl and placement in the center was a must. If yours is a single than you have options...

Are you right-handed or left-handed? You may want to consider that when placing your faucet, along with double or single bowl, and with the placement of your drain.

I have a single bowl, rear-center drain and am right-handed. I placed my faucet to the right side, with the handle on the right side of the faucet (I have the Grohe Ladylux.) This makes it a natural position for everything I do, and makes it a snap to fill heavy pots because I can set them on the counter to fill!

My soap dispenser and airgap are on the left to balance the placement around the sink.

I love the niches! Though your mom's looks built-out, not recessed between the studs. I could do that, even with the pocket door, but it would have to be very shallow as there is only 11" from the wall to the tub at the closest point. I also love the windows all the way to the deck - wish mine were lower (maybe not all the way down, but so that I could see out when sitting) but I lost the battle on that window and the one over the kitchen sink - I kept putting in bigger windows and they kept changing the plans, every time a study plan came back it had the smaller windows in again so I figured there was a structural reason and gave up. I could take out the linen closet - I've never liked linen closets in bathrooms, always take out lowest shelf to slide a hamper in and use the rest to stock up on shampoos and soaps - towels go in hallway linen closet where they won't get musty. I just need to keep a column at the front corner of the linen closet near the tub, there is a vent pipe running there - though maybe it could be relocated to the opposite wall of the closet, that is shared with the toilet/shower compartment, that's a thick wall anyway b/c of another pocket door (that slides in the opposite side - b/t the shower and the vanity which I'm not crazy about but I don't think I'm into trying to gut the unfinished bathroom around the brand-new tub and shower. Anyway, code says the controls have to be accessible from outside the tub, so faucets definitely have to go in front corner if I don't tear out the linen closet and box out around that vent pipe. I could forgo the handshower completely but it is convenient for rinsing hair and for rinsing the tub after cleaning (which I have to get into to tub to wipe so I usually clean just before or after using the tub). I could just return this small handshower and get a slightly larger one (with multiple settings!) that could mount on the deck and then I don't have to put it right in the middle, on the acrylic rim. I don't really like a big spout right near my face, would have to try it out and make sure it was far enough away not to be claustrophobic (or a hazard!) if I put it at the head of the tub instead of by the drain. The hot and cold water lines are the ones that would require 6ft hoses from the shutoff valves to the faucet handles/valves, the handshower is fine since it won't be that far from the spout (even when I had planned on it being opposite end, I just figured I'd put a 10-ft braided washing machine hose on). Maybe I will put a grab bar under the window - have to see if it really helps getting up/out. But if I were to put on on the deck for assistance getting in (I've only got a 30" inseam and the deck will be about 20" from finished floor), where would you suggest I put it? Thanks

Ok, I have been working on this for two days now and I would like some much needed help. I am working on my vanity cabinet for the bathroom. It will have to be made from scratch as there is nothing on the market that fits. I have a square 17.5" x 17.5" x 5" high thick green glass sink. Mine is practically the same as this but a deeper darker coke bottle green http://www.allmodern.com/Avanity-GVE450SQ-AVN1072.html I have picked out this vessel filler faucet http://www.danze.com/product_details.asp?g=2&mg=5&id=D201544 Cabinet is going to be 66" long. Where I need help is in the placement of each as they relate to each other. I have a friend that put a kitchen sink in and it hurts your back to stand and wash dishes cause the water is too far back and the sink was set too far back. I don't want to make the same mistake. I don't feel I have enough room even if I make the counter depth 24" to place the tap behind the sink. Maybe I am wrong about that. I think it must go to the right side so I have easy access and can operate the lever on/off handle. How close should I place the tap to the front edge of the sink and where should I place it? In the middle or closer to the back wall? How close should I make the sink sit toward the front edge. Just for a perspective the counter will be 32" high with a thick look edge to the counter of 2" +/-. The vanity will be off the floor 10" to give the floating look but I will be using legs due to the weight of the sink and cabinet and STUFF! So anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Any advice I am a visual person and I have the sink but I don't have the cabinet made or do I have the faucet in hand and I looked at the spec's and that didn't make any decisions for me. I had heard that 24" is really too deep for a vanity cause you can't get close to the mirrors and right now I am enjoying standing right in front of the mirrors cause there is nothing there but I am thinking with the size of the sink I don't want to make it impossible to clean behind it. I'd match the same gold on the dark vanity for your faucet. don't like the PN w/the brushed gold on that one. the gold faucet you do have doesn't look like the more vibrant gold of the pulls? If it's any help, I did matte black w/a more vibrant gold on my vanity I like the PN faucet. if you want to use it, then change out the handles to PN on the vanity. as for the others, don't know w/o pictures

Re: setting it offset, etc.:

Pay close attention to what you currently do. I thought I'd put handles and stuff on the left, since I'm right handed, and though I'd be holding my pans, etc., in my right hand.

But I find that I *hold* things in my left hand, which leaves my dominant hand *free* to pick up the sponge, turn on the water, etc.
I even prefer my soap dispenser on the right, bcs I pick up the sponge w/ my right hand, and hold it under the dispenser, and push w/ my thumb--one handed--all while holding the dish/pot in my left hand.

Also, i think that if you have a window over the sink instead of a cabinet, you may find that you'll adjust to that extra height more easily and rapidly than you think.

if it's just aesthetics, don't give up the functionality of a center faucet for that. Bcs the off-center could look just as odd as a huge faucet in the center.

Will your faucet reach most areas of the sink from the corner?

If your faucet is on the left, I would think you would want your lever to the left in front of the faucet. In the position you propose, is there room to fully manipulate the lever? Ergonomically, I am wondering if it would be a twist and a stretch. My faucet is on the right corner because there is not sufficient space at the back. My instant hot faucet and soap dispenser are on the left corners so it balances it out.

If you are worried about left-handedness vs. right-handedness, just use a Tapmaster! Those things are great, except that it means our entire family is prone to kick the baseboards in front of everyone else's kitchen sink, then wonder why the water doesn't turn on. Oops!

While waiting for my hijacked Dornbracht faucet, I used a Kohler Vinnata as a temporary. Then transferred the Vinnata to my new laundry room with farm sink. When I first put the Vinnata in I thought it was bulky, big and ugly. By the end of the week I loved it and wished I hadn't spent a fortune on my Dornbracht culinary faucet.

I totally agree with tally sue - try to see how you currently approach the faucet. I thought I would put the lever on the right, since we are all right handed. But I hold everything with my right, and reach under the arch to operate the lever. Others hold with their left and operate the controls with their right....
