Did you move stuff back into cabs before counters were installed?

We're all moved into the upper cabs. The counters will be installed the second week of July. Can I move back into the lowers or should I wait?

The installers will need access from underneath to install the countertops so I'd wait.

depends on what type of countertop you are installing.

I let people move into stone jobs.

I dont let them move into laminate jobs.

State of Connecticut. The answer is yes. We moved out before the closing on our former homes. All were local moves. Very simply, when the closing was done, we turned over the keys and no longer had any rights to the property. Staying the house would have been negotiated with the new owners prior to the closing and spelled out in a contract. By the same token, when we closed on homes we were buying, our walk throughs the morning of the closing were in empty houses. As far as moving our furniture, our first house we moved into ourselves from an apartment. Our second house, we moved in right after the closing. We lived in a camper for a night after moving out of our first house. The furniture was kept locked in the mover's truck overnight. The last move, we closed on our new house 2 weeks before we moved out of the old one. Enjoy the journey. eal51 in western CT

hi! we're in the middle of a kitchen update (big update, small kitchen!) and we have taken out the counters and cabinets, and are a day away from installing new cabinets. i'm going to wait until the granite counters are in to do the backsplash, but i'm wondering about the backsplash behind the stove. do you think we should take at least the first few rows of it down before putting the cabinet and rangehood back up? and, if so, what's the best way to do it? i'm nervous about wrecking the wall behind it. if you're interested, you can see more at www.iloveprojects.org. thanks for any and all tips!

When I did the kitchen in my previous home, I purged (I mean PURGED) before packing it up. Once the new kitchen was up and running, I had nothing in the kitchen that was not used. Now that we've moved and are doing another kitchen, the only difference is that some of what was previously in the kitchen will be in a hallway pantry this time (small apartment kitchen vs. house). Also, when I planned the new kitchen, every drawer and cabinet was specifically designed for something, so I know exactly where everything will go. I hope it won't take more than one or two days to unpack.

Need help! Is it normal for installer to SCREW temp counter into cabs?

If you asked me to set some temp plywood tops, I would put a couple screws in them to keep them from moving and possibly moving the drain lines on the sink. No reason to worry about filling the holes after the tops are gone. The new counters will cover them. The screws through the back of the peninsula cabinets should have been short enough to now come through the inside, or placed where you wouldn't be able to see/feel them. You should be able to take some nippers or side cutters and cut the visible portions of the screws/nails off.

I had quartz countertops installed yesterday. I moved stuff into the lower drawers, but the upper drawers just below the countertop I did not, in case there was any debris or dust from installation. (Turns out there wasn't much.)

We are having granite installed. The installer told me I could move in. Just thought I'd ask people here what their experiences were.

Chocolatetruffle - that's exciting! I hope you are pleased with them. I'm sooo looking forward to having my sinks and dishwasher back in production.

I didn't and wouldn't. The last process in moving back into your kitchen should be a very complete cleaning, including dusting the shelves inside the cabinets. You don't know how the install might go, often there is a bit of a mess, not huge but some.

I'm wierd about that type of cleaning I guess, but a week or two waiting until the kitchen is makes a lot more sense.
