Do you move out before closing if you are moving locally?

This post was from a response I got on another thread about walk throughs and how buyers like to see the house empty so they can see if there is any damage. In my area that is just not done, sure you can be asked to move a couch but to remove it, no. Where would you put it? Most people close on the house they are selling in the morning and the house they are buying in the afternoon or the next day (if their buyer is also selling a house).

I am talking about someone who is buying a more expensive house in the same or a local area, not someone being relocated

If I sell my house ideally I will not move until the day after closing. What if my buyer backs out? I need the money to put toward the new house. Where do I put my house full of furniture in the mean time? Sure some people buy, move and then sell but most people I know cannot afford to do that. Usually the seller has a few days to get out and must pay the buyer a premium per day for each day he uses the house after closing
