I think I would try to match a tile to the brown in the cabinets, so that the blue in that gorgeous granite stands out. It is going to be a lot of brown, but pretty!

I would consider sticking with stainless behind the rangetop to break up the brown if you went that direction with tile.

That's gorgeous! Any way you could afford to do the backsplash just behind the stove with the same stone?

I would have loved to :( but already blew the budget. Also, the granite is thicker than any backsplash tile so I wasn't sure how it would work and then I'd have to look at figuring out how to frame it.

You definitely need to set that granite off. Blues will "pop" when paired with its compliment of yellow. So look at the color wheel for your blue and the choose the exact other-side for your wall color. There's a vein of yellow-gold that granite that would be amazing on your wall. Not too deep or intense, or your cabinets wont stand out. But you've got yellow going in the rest of the house. Just look how it sets off the blue through that door. Perhaps a butter? There's that theory that you should go light/dark/light/dark and visa-versa (floor/cabinets/counter/wall) which I think you can do easily here.

You could try the copper tiles to see how they look with the colors. they are really pretty and would look nice with your colors.

piggbacking on the yellow notion. What do you think of something like this yellow/cream glass? I'm guessing it would be more transparent IRL.

Yellow or buff (by which I mean a bit more on the tan side than pure yellow) for sure. It will set off the blue louise and lighten the room. The glass Remodelfla suggests seems a good choice.

Tan paint to set off that gorgeous granite- buff/butter colored tile but I think the options posted are too busy since they are so small. I would go large format or no backsplash at all, just stainless behind the range. Gorgeous granite!!!!

I think something like this-stone that is buff colored with metal accents. I'm talking the squares in line with the small metal diamonds part of this pic

I think that you'd want to go with a solid colored backsplash (like the fireplace pic above). I think as nice as the auora blend is.. it will fight with the counter top. We painted our walls BM 1479 (alaskian husky).. I love the way the color picks up the different hues in the stone

I think you mean to ask Remodelfla what the tiles are...she's the one who posted the pics. The small format doesn't bother me, though I agree large format might be even better (ask Remodelfla to show a picture of her gorgeous large rectangular glass tile BS). And definitely it should be a single color or very little variation...not a mosaic or mix.

Out of curiosity, what's the difference between Blue Louise and Van Gogh? When I was looking for the stones, I used the names interchangeably, as per several charts along the lines of this. What I've got is called Van Gogh but other slabs called Van Gogh at the granite yard I went to look a lot like yours.

For those of you that have used blue louise, would you mind sharing pictures of your kitchens? I would really love, love to see what they look like!

drbeanie2000, I thought they were the same until I looked for it in NJ. Only two granite yards have it in NJ, the one I got my slabs from called it blue louise. the other granite yard had the van gogh which is the prettiest one that really looks like the painting, but the representative told me the van gogh is superior to blue louise, more expensive and the quarry is now not producing any more so what slabs they have they weren't eager to sell. I don't know if he is accurate but thats what I was told is the difference.

The counters are so gorgeous and clearly the stars. I can't recommend colors. I think you are getting great advise. I do however think the tile has to be in a large format, as simple as possible and no accents to break up the lines. I know how tempting the accents are because some of them are so spectacular, but they interfere with the gorgeous blue louise.

As to specific BM colors, I don't think anyone can actually tell you. Why don't you take a trip to the tile store first and bring home several possibilities in various butter/buffs? Try both small and large format to see what you think of size as well as color. Do try out both glass and matte. The problem with both tile and paint is that it can look so different in different kitchens due to natural light and other colors in the room - we have a big tree outside the kitchen/dining room that casts a bit of green light when the tree is in leaf. I think the butter/buff colors will probably be good, but bring some copper and brown home too. I was wondering if a copper accent strip would be a plus or a minus? Sometimes the tile you have the least confidence in turns out to be a surprise winner. After you get the backsplash settled, then you can worry about the wall color. Fortunately, you can get unlimited paint chips from the paint store, stick them all to the wall, and then start pulling the ones that don't make the grade. If you're still uncertain by the time you get it down to a couple or so, then you might need to buy some of the contenders, paint them on the wall and have a look.

I know you spent a goodly time choosing that blue. It was a good idea, but, you're right, it isn't really working. -Says the person who had to paint the living room three times to get it right.

The first was from Susan Jablon. The second was just a pic off houzz. I didn't investigate where they were from. And look... I just found this on modwalls but personally I think it's too yellow.

I have heard the same thing. Van Gogh is the slab that looks like the painting (which they aren't bringing in). Blue Louise is the slab that they have currently, but are referring to it as 'New Blue Louise'.

Here is a pic of ours. It is our island top, which is divided into a countertop height side, and a bar height side (we us as our table)

absolutely! and no other colors. I'd keep it plain and neutral - otherwise it will fight with the BL. you don't want to distract from the counter top - it's too beautiful and IS the star. Too much is too confusing to the eyes. Those things all need to be considered.

Someone just recently posted a BS they finished with really nice light cream tiles that had a very subtle variation to them from tile to tile. Anyone remember which thread? Those might be nice here. They were larger subway tile shape.

This one! My guess is Florida Tile may have a darker version if it is too light, buti haven't taken a look yet.

wow, Bon 22, your van gogh is just BEAUTIFUL!!

The one place I fount that had Van Gogh quoted an insane price, almost $500/sq ft. Plus they weren't willing to work with my kitchen company.

My husband likes the blue-green-teal family so I am thinking of trying out BM beach glass on the walls and perhaps a stainless steel backsplash tile? There's a lot of warmth from the cabinets and my floors so when I tried the tans/golds it was overwhelmingly glowy. Cabinets are toffee maple with brown glaze and island cabinets are espresso.

Love the suggestion about large format tiles, going to look tomorrow.

Very nice! Our backsplash was installed this week. We used the rest of our mascarello granite as a mosaic for behind the range. I had no idea what this was going to look like and when the stone place kept telling me "don't worry", I was getting kind of a bad feeling because I need to see things. So I trusted them and I am really happy with the way it turned out. However, I keep wanting to peel what looks like masking tape around the mosaic off, but it's durango trav.
