Love that door for your kitchen! But do you have dogs? If so, be prepared to wipe off lots of nose prints. Also if there are things to bark at in your yard (squirrels, birds, etc..) expect more barking!

Claybabe, I swear we're long-lost identical twins. Aberdeen, then copper counter, now this ...! We just had a few interior doors made for our bungalow, and they look like your plan, except we did ours with just one top rail to simplify things a tad. Here's the swinging one to the kitchen:

Well, I appreciate you all chiming in. Really, the problem I have with the craftsman-ish door is that there are a lot of variations on that theme in my kitchen: Over the fridge, next to the door, is the foursquare (my least favorite) and the other cabs have rectangles with glass in several configurations. Opposite the outside door is another interior door original to the house in fir, that has a swoopy top.

I LOVE the craftsman door, but it might be too much..

Well, I went with the single lite, though I appreciate the votes above. I love the craftsman door, but something just didn't seem right in the room. I gave you all way too little information, but the single lite is great (a little disconcerting, since we keep thinking the door has been left open..). Definite improvement over the old door destroyed by dogs. I will post finished kitchen photos at some point in the near future.

Wedding is tomorrow: Ceremony is on top of the local ski hill the kids skied on when they were first going together, and the reception is in our yard. Raging thunderstorms expected again today, but lawn is mowed and I will have lots of helpers today to set the tables out. Flowers are blooming (a little tired looking after the rain, but ok), and all is well.

Biggest issue this week, other than being completely immersed in a local race last week and weekend, cutting into my garden primping time, is that the basement flooded with all the rain. Just one room, but it is destroyed, so we will need to gut it next week and re-drywall etc. Rain gutters need to be redone to prevent this in the future and carpet is toast. And it looks like a bunkhouse in the main living area, with now THREE blow-up/futon beds in a charming configuration..But no one died, no one is ill, everyone is happy, no major meltdowns, so life is good! Thanks for asking Oldbat2B!

Now I am off to spray paint a couple of chairs, the old washtubs my grandmother used to grow geraniums in (and I still do) and touch up of the Pergola. Have a great day, all!

Good Idea, Gigi! Unfortunately I didn't see this until today, but no incidents, probably because the door was open most of the night.
It was gorgeous. Kids got married on top of a mountain that meant something to them, and it was breathtakingly beautiful with absolutely perfect weather. Then back to the house for some food (shockingly good and the folks cleaned up, were sweet to us and unobtrusive) and music. Really a lovely day.

On to the basement heh heh heh...

Huge dog lover here - so please forgive me in advance...
If your dogs have any size and/or weight to them I hope the glass is tempered or shatterproof or something. My neighbor has an 80-90 lb dog who, when the bell rang, went running to the door, toe nails on tile so went into a nice slide, and slid sideways smack into the door and broke the very heavy decorative glass with metal work in it. Luckily the glass didn't fall out or anything, just shattered within the frame, and the dog wasn't hurt except for a sore side for a little while. I have a rescued greyhound and since greys grow up on the track once they retire they have to learn about doors, and glass, and stairs, and screen doors, and all that. I know some have gotten hurt, even killed, with the glass doors either by breaking the glass and getting cut or by breaking their necks. My greyhound ran straight through the screen door - just so glad I didn't have the slider closed! Just please be careful since the glass is new and there are lots of fun things to bark at outside the door. Lecture over. =)

But if your dogs are littler ones then it shouldn't matter. You will just have nose prints and tongue prints and paw prints to deal with. Well, and maybe some scratches from the why-can't-you-open-the-door-this-second-I-want-to-come-in-RIGHT-NOW issue. Or maybe those are just my dogs. :)

Hey Beeps! Thanks for the heads up. Huge dog lover here also.

The door is tempered and all that. We have had french doors previously, and what I found then was that if the dog could see in, he just waited until I saw him. "He" is with us no more and we moved from the french door house, but our sweet girl lab had always hopped up on this door to see in in order to let us know she wanted in. And the dog I baby sat for the past four months was more of a puppy and scratched at this door until it and the handle were destroyed. However, the full lite has had the desired effect and now there is just patient waiting and looking in. Not even so much as a nose print. There is also no straight shot to the door from the inside or the outside, so I suspect this will be a low-speed corner. Overall, I have no qualms about the glass door, since I lived with one for about 20 years at the old house. And I can't tell you how nice the extra bit of light and view is in the room.

Sounds like you have a very good and patient girl. I have 4 and they each have their unique way to let me know they want in or out. None are so well-behaved as yours to just wait until I see them. Only in my dreams. =) Enjoy your light and view! :)
