Another possibility for you: the Amana AGR5735. I was happy enough with the one we found in our rental that we bought one for our new house. People will tell you that Amana is not at the top of Consumer Report's reliability list but then the high-end stuff people like here is quite a bit less reliable than Amana. I've had no problems with the two we've had over five years or so. It has a 16K BTU/hr burner (14K after conversion to propane, which is what we use), good heavy-duty, continuous cast iron grates (better than on the Maytag version, I think), simmer settings adjustable to very low via screws under the control knobs, the largest oven I've ever seen in a 30" range. Well within your budget, should be available for $700 or so, the AGR5835 adds convection for about $800. Despite what Trixie said, I don't thing you'd find anything in your price range that couldn't be converted to propane. Most (for sure the Amana) are even shipped with the conversion kit included. But there's no harm in checking to be sure. Trixie's advice about performance is good. The derating is typically 10% or so but some (some GE models in particular) suffer much bigger losses for some reason.

I donÂt have this but I have read positive reviews. If you only have space for a 30", I think this is the way to go. I would prefer the smaller oven on top. I have heard from many people who say they end up using the smaller one more than the big one and this makes sense to me. Do you want a second oven or just a warming drawer??? If you mostly want a warming drawer  then having it on the bottom does make sense. Make sure to check the temps of the bottom oven  some really are just warming drawers and some are really ovens. GE makes both. Have you seen the new GE Café model due out in September? This will be the only 30" slde-in double oven on the market. It comes in either double fuel or all gas.

Well,... I still didn't get an opportunity to see one in person today. We got pounded with snow here in Baltimore, and all I was about was getting my tush home. Did a lot of reading last night (this mornig) and discovered I WANT a Cafe DF with GE's Trivection technology in the oven. To my knowledge, only the Profile electric sports this technology. Unfortunate! Someone commented in a thread over at Epinion that a Cafe DF with Trivection was on the near horizon,... Can anyone confirm this? I would happily wait for it,... if it's around the corner. I was hoping to have my three items (refrigerator, Dish Washer, and Rane) in by year's end, but I'd wait on the range if this is true and move the Dish Washer up to item #2. Quick question about the Cafe: How well did GE think through the art of catching cooking grease from the center grilling option? Easy to clean after burgers and bacon? Or did they not give it much attention? I've heard of some horror stories about that with respect to other solid and grated cooktop grills, and I haven't seen it mentioned here. Is the Cafe center grill both solid and grated? In none of the pics did I see the grill option(s), or any indication of how the runoff is handled. Also, I'm wondering if the bottom oven electronic menu have the same cooking programs found in the Profile double ovens,... like for pizza and such. Also, of the folks here who are Cafe owners, did any of you opt for the optional backsplash? And how much extra did it run. In the pictures, it looks like it sports a rack bar. Correct? Then in another pic of the Cafe, the backsplash looked to be no more than a couple inches high. Are there two backsplash options available? I'm pretty much sold on the Cafe (guess that's not hard to tell), and the ony thing keeping from landing on one this weekend is the upcoming availabilty of trivection to the Cafe line. If not,... I'll go with the All Gas version. Everyone seems to be happy with that. Either way, I have both gas AND a four prong outlet in place so I guess I"m good to go with whatever version we settle on. Marv - I understand free-standing vs slide-in a little better now. Slide-in will look similar to a Dish Washing coming out of the box,... naked sides! Our 10 year old Maytag Gemini gas range needs replacement. We really liked our Gemini, which was trouble free til a spilled cup of tea shorted out the ignition and the burners could not be removed. The only problems we really had were: not enough room to use all 4 burners at the same time with large pans. I believe that is because the control knobs were on the top surface right side, so you lose top surface area. My instinct is to buy the same item to replace it. The current Gemini model runs $1500. It looks much like the one we have, with a few tweaks. It DOES have controls on the front. I now think that will be a plus, whatever we end up choosing. Saves space on the top cooking surface, at least. It has 5 burners instead of 4, for example. Seems like many stoves in this range have 5 burners. Though I don’t know how useful that is. How will you fit all the pans on? It's not uncommon for me to have 4 pans running at the same time, and still need one more. But are there better brands and options? This stove has 2 ovens, and we use the smaller oven constantly, for broiling mostly. I would want the same feature. On these forums people are mostly talking about the high end ranges, which are all wider than the 30” space we have. On another thread someone mentioned a site called AJ Madison to compare. I will still probably buy from our local huge, excellent appliance store, where we have bought all our appliances. But I need to do my homework going in. Plugging in my parameters (30”, double oven, gas, under $2000 (I can go higher but I’d want a good reason, for a range of that small size)) the brands I see are LG, GE, and Whirlpool. Am I wrong when it comes to stoves? Please tell me. GE: no experience with that brand and stoves. Whirlpool: all the builders model appliances that came with this house 30 years ago were Whirlpool. No problems with them, but they were all really basic and were replaced 11 years ago when we did our kitchen remodel. Any 30-years-old reference point I might have is probably irrelevant now. So I would appreciate and information you might have to help me narrow my search between these brands. I am having trouble posting comments. I can originate a post, but not answer, even on my own thread. I have been in touch with Houzz and none of their suggestions worked. I think its a browser incompatibility issue.
