Soapstone before and after. . . .
Comments (22)Casey, it looks exactly like the Alberene Old Dominion. You can tell more when it is unoiled. I'm pretty sure it was from this quarry as it was found about 45 min away from the quarry itself. . . Someone actually painted the top at some point. The chem lab table top seems to fit the bill as something ate through the paint exposing the soapstone under it. . . so much fun. .. . swspitfire. . .it's out of my price range too. . . I feel like the auto mechanic that drives around in a beat up old car. . .lol I do have it, but not in my kitchen. . . :( polly. . .call me I can't just tell you what to do if I don't know what type of stone you have, who did it, and how handy you are. . .. .so on Bee. . .prices for houses are great down here. . .but look out you don't want to live just anywhere around here. focyirac, it's a person on the forum. . .I forget her name here but I'll email her to maybe shed some light. The cart thing was a fun project. I want to get another one so I can work some magic. Mimi wanted to keep this one kind of how we found it. I just couldn't pass on using the soapstone as a show and tell at the shop. . . The next one I come across I've got some plans for. . ....See MoreBarocca soapstone looks like Ray Liotta after 2 hours. What else?
Comments (121)Marcolo, this isn't necessarily for you, but for someone who might be considering linoleum type counters in the future. When we were first married, we lived in an old farmhouse that had red lino floors, and red lino counters, perfect U shape postwar remodel, sigh. (It looked like they used the cutout of the floor to do the counters!) I don't know if the problems came with the age of the lino, or what, but every time I tried to lift something warm up off the counter, it would stick fast. So, things like a bowl of soup or a bowl of oatmeal would stick. When I'd finally pry the bowl up, a small chunk of linoleum would be stuck to the bottom of the bowl. Yuck! We were very happy when we could replace those counters with some laminate. I hope you find that durable finish you are after. Have to wonder if hard wood countertops might be a good option. I think they'd still give you somegrounding with the colors you are considering. This kitchen is especially bright, is it grounded enough?...See MoreDIY bathroom reno finally complete! Comments (43)Just one side note, it was mostly DIY- all of the plumbing and tub installation was done by a plumber. And the plaster walls were resurfaced by a professional. They were pretty bad after removing the tile. And my husband wanted plaster not Sheetrock....See More1905 kitchen brought into 2016: Before and After
Comments (36)Love, love, love your kitchen. What a beautiful space and functional, too! Being able to cook 8 pizzas with people in the kitchen with you and not having to ask anyone to move is remarkable and truly a testament to how well you designed the kitchen's workflow. I wish I'd have seen your idea of having the HVAC guy cut two panels of galvanized for inside your cupboard doors before I ordered a magnetic board for my command center. I have a feeling that people will be referring to your idea for a long time for their own uses. :)...See Morenutherokie_gw
