Now I'm dreaming about flanges, air switches, etc....please help?

I'm trying to purchase everything I need for the kitchen sink and came up with the following list, but want to make sure everything fits together nicely and works together ok (based on some other previous posts).

So far my list is:

Sink - Rohl shaws fireclay sink 30 inch

Faucet - Kohler Vinnata in oil rubbed bronze

so far, so good...here is where it gets tricky:

Garbage disposal - InsinkErator Excel 1 HP continuous feed $354

Air switch - InsinkErator STS00 sink top air switch $62 (this is the kit to make the switch an air switch) with InsinkErator air switch ORB (this is the actual air switch) $19

Flange - Insink Erator extended Flange in stainless steel $64

Stopper - InSinkErator stopper (in white) Dual position stopper $20

Do you think the flange in SS will look ok b/c I couldn't find an InsinkErator extended flange in White to go with the sink and stopper.

Please let me know if this makes sense, and should all work together with the Shaw sink? I want to purchase all of this already so I stop dreaming about them all!!!!

I have a related question. When putting in a new disposal what DO you need that is not included with the disposal itself? I see all these accessories displayed beside the disposals but no where can I find what is included and what isn't. I do know about the air switch but the flanges is what confuses me.

It would be nice if you could find the flange in white. I think it would look best but I don't think the stainless steel would look bad either.

When you do a Google search for an Insinkerator extended flage in white several sites come up but I am not sure if this is the exact flange you are looking for. It is available in white.

Thanks Nishka - I don't think that is the true extended version b/c it goes for around $64 and the regular flange is around $20 like the one listed on your link.

To answer your question, not only do you need the specific air switch (in the color you want) but you need the kit to make the garbage disposal work with the air switch vs the regular switch.

1. I think the list of stuff will all work together. 2. Since you're getting a bronze faucet, does ICE make a bronze extended flange? Or Rohl? 3. The flange that comes with the GD will be a standard flange in stainless (most likely) and not usable. It won't fit the sink. The stopper will be reusable but also in stainless or just plain black. 4. since the diameters of the flange/stopper are standard, you can buy different ones from ICE. 5. A stopper for a continuous feed is so you can keep water in the sink. It's basically a round disk with a grab knob on the shiny side. A stopper for a Batch feed also has the T-shaped bit on the bottom that activates the GD when the stopper is inserted in the correct position. I'm going to guess that a '2-position' stopper is for a batch feed model.

Andrea! I was thinking about you last week. Good to hear you're moving ahead. You'll be glad you took your time and got the right person. Yes, the Waste King fiber optic switch works for any continuous feed GD. I have an Insinkerator with the Waste King fiber optic switch, and so does kaseki. I love that switch. I realize now that I said that the Waste King switch plugs in, and this was a problem. Well, so does the air switch, and it's not actually a problem. I wonder now if my GC had ever installed either before. He was the one who said that it was a problem that it plugged and he had to adjust it so it could be hard wired. As time goes on, I find more things that various GC's have done in my house that may not have been optimal, shall we say.

I'm another who doesn't understand what the problem is. We put our airswitches in just about the same location and find it very convenient. I sometimes turn the water on just before running the GD and usually turn the water off right after turning the GD off so it is convenient to have them close to each other. Occasionally some water drips on the air switch but that's okay - it either air drys or is dried off when I wipe the counter. My hand usually isn't so wet as to leave a whole lot of water. If it was, I would have to wipe the counter anyway. By the way, even if the airswitch isn't by the faucet, it will sometimes get wet because of water splashing when spraying something in the sink. What problem do you think the water is going to cause by being on the air switch that it won't cause by being on the counter? If your water is hard and leaves water stains it will do that to the counter too. In that case, it might be best to turn the handle to the front to keep the drips in the sink. Or you might try it this way for a bit to see if you like it after all. You can always change the way the faucet handle faces later. Since many people like their switch in that position, I don't think you can fault your installers. If you had a strong preference for layout, you should have been there or left detailed instructions. Delays put our granite install when I was going to be away on a business trip and even though we had discussed things and mocked-up the accessory layouts, my DH wouldn't let them drill the holes with me away. They came back so we could both be there and we could make in case last minute tweaks to the layout were needed.

For Zarco: We've had our air switch for only a couple weeks but so far I'm loving it. It is easy to keep clean, I just wipe it down along with the rest of the countertop. We got ours at Lowe's for about $60, and that included a package with white, chrome, and satin nickel finishes. Insinkerator brand and it works fine with our Kitchen Aid disposal. For illinigirl: I've seen air switches mounted on the front of the cabinet frame as an alternative, but that's probably not a better choice than countertop for your situation. I don't see why it couldn't be placed inside the sink base cabinet, or even in the flip-out tray in front of the sink, if that would help. Definitely something you should discuss with your GC and/or plumber. I believe there is plenty of flexibility, just need to think outside the box. Good luck!

AllNew: Did you find out if that $64 flange is the same as the Rohl $164 flange? I'm right there with you ordering all of these parts, it is so confusing. I'm glad to see you found a $20 stopper instead of the $94 my bathroom showcase is asking me to purchase!

I think the stainless drain will look fine with your ORB faucet.

Good luck! I'm ordering my plumbing tomorrow, my tiles this week and my appliances (all new like you!) after that. Whew, so many decisions.

Hi Semi - I posted the question to Rohl and InsinkErator website customer service so will let you know what I find out. Would love to be able to order the InsinkErator extended flange instead of the Rohl one.....and I guess whatever brand flange I get I would get the same brand stopper to make sure it fits.
I just want to make sure the flange and stopper work ok with the garbage disposal and the thickness of the Rohl sink.

ok, now I have more questions -

1. Do I need the kit to use an air switch with the InsinkErator garbage disposal? Does it matter which GD I get to answer this question?

2. With the InsinkErator GD, it says it comes with a flange and stopper - can I switch these with ones that match my faucet?

3. With a continuous GD, do you need the stopper? Or just the flange?

I'm so confused..................
