Garbage Disposal - On/Off switch
Comments (8)Thanks everyone - that's what i thought. My kids are actually well behaved in the kitchen as well. I have 2 little girls and b/c we have a galley that opens up into a dining area, they mostly stay in there anyway b/c I'm always yelling "get out of my space!" when I'm cooking or cleaning. And b/c our cabinets are old and hard to open, they tend to stay away from these as well. I just wanted to comfort my hubby. I think he's still traumatized by my 4 year old cutting her thumb on an open can and needing stitches (oddly he's a doctor and yet literally almost passed out watching her thumb bleed and yes, we've since got a can opener that doesn't leave sharp edges!). Thanks!...See MoreGarbage Disposal Switch - wall outlet or push button ?
Comments (24)Sabjimata -- we got one disposal with an air switch, and one batch feed disposal. I adore the batch feed, and if I ever get any extra $$ I'm considering replacing the air switched one for another batch feeder. (Not that I don't love the air switch, it was a perfect solution for an under-window sink where I have little open wall for miles.) We have the 1hp Insinkerator, and it's a marvel. You insert the cover and twist it a bit and it turns on. Twist again and it turns off. It has little openings in it so you can keep the water flowing from the faucet during operation, like any disposal, or even just leave the cover on in the 'off' position while doing your work. I suppose the only drawback might be losing the cover somehow (kids use it as a hockey puck? dog takes it outside to bury?), but they're easily replaced. Warmly recommend!...See MoreAir Switch for Garbage Disposal
Comments (8)We eliminated the air switch or any kind of external switch by getting a batch disposal, which has its switch built into the throat of the disposal, activated by turning the stopper. The stopper can also be positioned to plug the drain or to let water & small bits flow into the drain. A batch unit does not have the rubber flange that the continuous feed units have, so it's easy to see into it, & nicer & safer if you have to retrieve anything. We have 2 Insinkerator Evolution Cover Control disposals in our kitchen, and love them....See MoreGarbage disposal leaking- questions re: new GD and air switch
Comments (18)We had the Badger and just replaced it with another Badger today. I wanted the same one since it fit and the dishwasher drains into it and it would hook back up the same. We didn't even have to change the hook up in the sink. Mine has the switch in the wall behind the sink. I don't see why your switch couldn't move to there. The air gap is for your dishwasher, so dirty water won't back up and drain into your clean in case of a plumbing back up. The bigger ones are really about the same size, so I don't see why you couldn't put a different one in. Oh, and yes, mine rusted out and was leaking from the bottom....See Moresuzanne_sl
