Need decorating help- Blue Pearl and Maple

Please help! We are doing natural maple cabinets on the perimeter with Blue Pearl granite and a maple butcher block on the 10 ft. island. Thinking about painting the island to break it up but have no clue what color. I love blue, and want to bring out the blue in the granite, but of course, BP looks grayish from many angles. Someone suggested a silvery blue. The kitchen is open to the living room and all the walls are a soft yellow/tan (there when we purchased). This is a bay home with east windows and lots of light. Ideas much appreciated.

That sounds good! We have blue pearl with white cabinets, no island.

There was a thread the other day on the Home Decorating Forum about blue-grey paints. HTH.

Thanks for that thread on blue-grey. Of course, after dainaadele's advice, I'm more nervous about choosing than ever!! LOL Anyone else have any other ideas?

I, personally, don't care for blue pearl with oak or maple cabinets. My MIL has it w/ oak and it just looks off to me. A friend has it with cherry cabs and it looks nice. Maybe the blue seems to "cool" to go with warmer toned cabinets. I wouldn't rush picking your stone. Can you look elsewhere for your first choice? Remember, you will be looking at these counters every day...... don't let anyone rush you, even yourself! Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful:

Along with everyone else, I think the white cabs and the blue pearl counters are fabulous. One thing I notice in the photos, though, it that it really makes a difference to this combo what you choose for the floor. I don't usually notice the floor 1st or 2nd in photos, but in these I do. I tend to prefer the darker wood floor in shelayne's floor, you can just see a bit of it. Have you considered a tile floor with a wood look? Solves the doggie toenail issues. Maybe something like this: If you have hardwood in adjacent rooms, I'm not sure how that would work, but it's an idea. Notice also Shelayne's black pulls on the lowers and glass knobs on the uppers. Nice combo. And as long as we're talking go-withs, how about that gray backspash in boxerpup's 9th photo? I think I like it better without the black accent pieces, but I can't believe I like a gray backspash at all.

Flevy, I am the b*tch too. How dare you make my child learn? Usually they change their minds after they start the next grade. They realize that they learned a lot from me. One girl said to me this year that this year was the first year she has retained anything. Sept actually said in staff meeting to only teach math and reading...nothing else. I told school board press in Dec that I was leaving in may. This was my first year there since we moved south. I also told supt that I refused to only teach math and reading. So I am not a team player. My fifth graders had five tests. Flevy,, I have been saying it for years. We are not always sending our brightest students to college. Some get grants to go and put little effort out. Why should they? They aren't paying for it. That is a beautiful kitchen. Love the cool green tile, window light fixtures, and glass doors. What is the cabinet on the left with the mixer on it? Unusual base cabinet.

the cabinets along the perimeter (outside wall) + island cabinets will be the same stained maple. The butler's pantry (on opposite side of room) will have blue painted cabinets. For countertops, we want to put the darker color (currently verde karzai) on the perimeter, a lighter color (sea pearl) on the island and a small slab of sea pearl on the butler pantry. Is that too busy?

Make a color board. Here's the one for our kitchen, which has clear finish maple on the perimeter, Caesarstone "dusty stones" on the countertops. The island will have Caesarstone "organic white" countertops and we're painting the island Sherwin Williams "Dovetail."

The three paint swatches at the top of the image are the dovetail gray, the color of the walls and the color of the trim. The background of the image is also the color of the walls.

You can also see our flooring (3 different colors of marmoleum), our backsplash tile, countertops, maple, and a little tiny refrigerator in stainless.

It will look splendid. Do you have to go for a dark gray blue?
What about a soft gray blue color that will not clash with
the tan in the other room. Some blue Pearls with the right
light have bits of silver mica that almost look
white. Have you looked at any paint swatches?
You said the lighting is bright. Excellent you have so
many options available to you. I love the idea of a blue gray.

Here are some blues I love but of course match them up
to your grantite to see if this works for you. Your walls,
the butcher block, the maple...
