Guys, I need some serious help.
Comments (19)IMO, your father is playing both of you like a fiddle. As long as each of you are complaining about the other one, all focus is off of him. Brilliant! Golddust.. I agree. I've started replying 3 times and deleted all of them. I think there's more to the story & doubt it's just the girlfriend. Reading her letter, she probably thinks she's helping her man. Danielle, the best advice I can give you is to try to understand where she is coming from; but don't let her walk all over you. This is a very touchy situation; you know what your dad was like when you were growing up & she came into the picture after he was out of his "unhappy" marriage. While he's probably told her his side; she's never going to know what really happened because she wasn't there and IMO.. she needs to respect your feelings & how hurt you were by him but try to respect her for trying to be there for your dad now. I have issues with my step son. He likes to go back to his father & say that I said this or I said that. When my hubby fell off of his truck I sent him an email because he stopped speaking to my hub & wouldn't you know it, he twisted my email around trying to start a fight between my hub & I. Thankfully my hub knew about the email before I sent it; it was a rude awakening to my hub of just what his son would do to get me out of the picture. This is all in SS's head, not mine because I can be grown up about it & smile like nothing ever happened but he can't. The best advice I can give you is to try to have a relationship with your dad without the GF around every time. You still need father/daughter time. I encourage hub to call his son or go golfing with him because even though we can't see eye to eye, it's still his son. My hub does not talk about me when they are together & if the kid starts, he says it's between you 2 and not me. SS's mother was an alcoholic - probably why he hates me so much because we have the life he never had growing up & his father has been raising my 2 kids for the last 10 years.. so he's bitter; but he's also an adult man in his 30's & a divorced father. I don't feel that the GF was trying to place "blame" on any of the kids for the marriage/drinking problems, I read it as her just stating why he was drinking. My dad stayed in a bad marriage because "It was cheaper to keep her" & we kids suffered with the fighting. Dad was not around most times, he chose to work as much as he could....See Morefirst time posting- need help with paint color for den
Comments (1)I think a rusty red would be pretty. It might make the room look a little smaller. Another choice might be an olive or sage type green that wouldn't clash with the yellow....See MoreNeed some SERIOUS dining room help guys.
Comments (39)Kitchendetective, I read your comment wrong. I thought you said NOT to put something like the Poppy Nine Patch in the dining room but you actually said that it might work to put that there. Good point about not putting all browns in the dining room but aqua???? Wish I could wrap my brain around that one. Maybe I am just too predictable. LOL I'm trying to visualize how that wouldn't clash with the other colors but then again, it might work. Again, great you guys are thinking out side the box when I live inside it. LOL Thanks Chris. The wood does seem darker when I got it here which I'm glad for. A flat screen tv? I haven't priced those and not sure I can afford one with having to pay for new furniture but will look into that. They might be more affordable than I think. That would look better I guess on that cabinet than the regular tv that's on it now. Jamies...I originally had the artwork flipped like you suggest with the larger trees being on the outside but it seemed to look odd and not pull the look together as much as it does this way. It just didn't look right to me. I am about to leave and take pics of the LR and DR with me back to the furniture store where I am meeting the design coordinator there. She told me she could help me maybe pick out some things for those walls and I'm printing out everyone's suggestions to take with me. Gonna tell her if she can't make that darn sisal rug work somehow then I'm bringing it back. It's growing on me.....I think. Not sure yet. Thank you guys so much for your input. Will let you know if anything is decided. You guys are so valuable with your knowledge....See MoreNeed some serious Daylily help
Comments (12)We are in Western New York state, Buffalo/Niagara Falls area. To answer the others questions: It is 40 inches from ground to the floor of the porch. I'll be painting the base of the porch a sparkling white. I'm going to guess that there is about 8 to 10 feet from the edge of the wide front stairway, which is on the left side of the porch, to the far right corner of the porch, (sorry, I haven't measured it yet). The front wall of the house, downstairs, is white and the floor is new Timber Tech in light gray. There's a white bead board ceiling. We have a large metal glider with two metal chairs which I am considering painting a butter yellow which would work with the yellow day lilies. I would love to come up with plantings in front of the porch that would just take your breath away. Hopefully plants that would flower all summer. I've even thought of bringing in more top soil to bank that area in front of the porch base. There is a beautiful Clemantis climbing at the far right end of the porch. We're going to put in new posts and railings on both the first floor porch and the second floor porch. I'll be putting flower boxes on those railings. A major reason for going with the yellow is because the front wall of the second floor was painted a medium green that is almost a gold. Getting into painting the entire house this summer is not on our to do list so I have to work with what is there. I hope this is not too much information, but I thought the full picture would help to to find the right answer as to what to plant in front of the porch. Please ask any questions you need to! Thank you sooo much for any direction you can give me. Christine...See MoreHolly- Kay
