Soapstone vs Princess White in white kitchen
Comments (8)I really thought I wanted marble too and I ADORE marble. I wasn't so concerned about etching but unsure if I wanted the marble throughout the entire kitchen. I knew that whatever I got, I wanted a honed/matte finish. After shopping, samples, one thing led to another and I went in a totally different direction with soapstone. HEAVILY veiny Monsoon Wave soapstone. My house is a 1970's little ranch and can't even speak to a vintage look. I think the white granites look stunning and from what I read, if you seal it you'll be fine. What I can say, is I am over the moon over the indestructibility of my soapstone. I am a serious cook and baker and by no means delicate in the process. My soapstone is my favorite part of my kitchen. I do everything on it and no worries. It amazes me that I can get different looks as the weeks go by when I choose not to oil/wax the stone. I fall in love with each look and think I want to keep it that way until I wax it again and renew my love of that look....See MoreWhite Cabinets, Soapstone counter, and white tile floor?
Comments (12)Jkemner - It sounds like a lovely combination, but I have to agree with the others regarding the maintenance of a light tile floor. I just had mine installed a few months ago and thought it would be great because my room is so dark and I clean the floors so frequently anyway. I was so wrong! The above commenters are correct that it is a constant battle to keep the floors clean looking. My worst peeve is that a single drop of water on the floor will get smeared by a shoe or dirty foot and it shows. The Kitchen Designer Blog has some recent entries about light floors. She also has some very nice pictures. Here is a link that might be useful: The Kitchen Designer Blog...See MoreWhite glossy cabinets and white Caesarstone counter
Comments (14)Thanks for the helpful responses. Annkathryn, your kitchen is beautiful. I really like the modern shapes with traditional materials (wood, marble), just what I am going for. Do you know if it is typical for white counters to have very visible seams? Shannonaz, I am not tied to Caesarstone but I can get a fairly good deal on it, and they have a good reputation AFAIK. Also, their Pure White seemed to match my cabinet color the best that I have seen so far, though it is hard to judge with just a sample. I'm getting Belmont 1900 white acrylic cabinets. I also looked at Cambria and Pental. Cambria will cost me more, and Pental's white is almost too bright, bordering on bluish. Pipdog, yet another beautiful room, so bright and clean. I am going with a grayish marble in one of my bathrooms (carrara). Perhaps it is the photo, but compared to the sink, I do notice that the counter appears ever-so-slightly darker than the cabinets, with a touch of a warm tone. Why did you eventually go for the Pure White over Blizzard?...See MoreSoapstone counter, off-white cabinets, floor??
Comments (5)No problem. Cork can be toughened up and the finish refreshed multiple times throughout it's lifetime. But if it isn't for you, then that's not uncommon to hear. For comfort and warmth = sheet linoleum (cork is warmer and more comfortable...but not something you are into). If you want low-maintenance = porcelain tile. If you want durable with a little bit of comfort = vinyl in a stone visual (cork and linoleum are far more comfortable...but to each there own)....See Morejmaurry
