Stainless Undermount Sink Recs - talk to me!

Hello - Well, in addition to about a million other things, I have sink selection on my 'to do' list.

Looking for an undermount stainless. Want to go as deep as I can. I had one big bowl w/ a small side bowl in my last kitchen and that worked just fine. Our sink base is going to be 36". Our sink will be positioned in the middle of a 10' island.

Just wondering what factors I should consider as I make a decision on this!

I have a Ticor undermount sink in a 36" sink base. Here's a pic of it installed (I think this pic is the one I've posted the most on this Forum....and sorry if you're all tired of it!)

Dimensions:
* Overall: 35-1/8" x 20-7/8" x 9"
* Large Bowl: 21-3/8" x 18-3/4" x 9"
* Small Bowl: 10-1/2" x 15-7/8" x 7"

I have the S405D with the small bowl on the right; the S405DR has the small bowl on the left.

With an undermount sink, your sink's total depth = bowl depth + granite thickness. In my case, I have 3cm granite so my larger bowl is actually a little over 10" deep.

boring woman in America. I choose the Oliveri.

Why?
I wanted a simple one bowl sink super deep that
could hold a turkey roaster pan.
Undermount. 30L, 18W and 10 deep. With the thick
granite counter it is an added inch deeper.
Brushed stainless steel, Some insulation to be
quiet.

Olivieri because they can make any configuration
you want and large industrial kitchens use this brand.
They are not out to make mega bucks off of you like
Blanco or Franke. I like that this is a simple
world wide company that makes a great product for
a fair price. You won't find these sinks at the
super stores. They are not made in China or Indonesia.
A good product at a fair prices with creative
options.

I did not want a divider, or second bowl. I find
I like the space of one giant bowl deep to hide
dirty dishes or keep them off the counters.
My DH at first did not like this idea. He wanted
one of these two sinks. He was thinking about looks
more than function.

Toyed with the idea of a farmhouse. DH loves this.
But I like my little cubbies sponge tip drawers.
And I have a small kitchen that could not have a FarmH
sink in a lovely way like so many on GW.

However since you have had the second bowl and liked
it you might find a smaller 2nd or 3rd bowl helpful.

I don't have a photo of my sink but here is
one from their web site. I know, I know boring
but I find it suits me.

To answer the various questions: Sleevepresto...No, we don't have any problems using the faucet in the left bowl. Its reach falls just short of the drain, so it's a few inches in. What's nice about my faucet, though, is that I can dock it in any position...so I can direct the spray/stream to other parts of the large bowl (I'll post pics at the end of this post). My faucet has a 9-1/2" reach, so when getting a faucet, I recommend something very similar...regardless of the sink you decide to go with. Double bowl sinks, in general, need the longer reach to reach both bowls. BTW...You don't have to mount the faucet anywhere in particular, but if you want to be able to use the faucet in both sinks then you do need to mount it b/w them. Pickle2...My S405D fit in a 36" sink base. When I was looking for sinks, my KD told me we that any sink at least 1/2" narrower than the sink base would work. At 35-1/4" wide, the S405D is 3/4" narrower, so it should work in your sink base. I should note that when I purchased this sink the exterior dimensions were listed as 35-1/8" wide...but that's just 1/8" less than the specs they list now. You may have to scribe the sides a bit, but several people have done this for other sinks with no problems. Now, some pictures of what the Kohler Vinnata can do. Other faucets may also do this, so if you have your heart set on a different faucet, check to see if you can do the same with your chosen faucet. (You may have to find it installed somewhere to check as this is not necessarily mentioned in descriptions...I know it wasn't mentioned anywhere for my faucet...I discovered this while playing with it.)

Using a reveal with an under-mount sink to create a "ledge" sink.

Not advised to create a ledge. You physically can, but now you depend on silicon to keep things water tight. If you keep a zero reveal or an overhang, then water is less likely to accumulate on the sink flange (Which is used to create the ledge). The silicone then can stay intact longer, and not be needed as the primary water guard. Often the biggest problem we see with ledge sinks is with the installation. Some issues we have been told is with accessories not fitting. However, this is easily avoidable with two best practices: 1. The fabricator should always follow the template 2. Once the hole is cut for the sink, dry fit the accessories to ensure smooth sailing from the client. If you like ledge sinks then check this new release: Kraus Kore

“there seem to be lots of reviews about Kraus stainless sinks in general that it gets scratched easily” ALL stainless steel sinks scratch. That is the nature of stainless steel. Those reviewers appear not to know that. But whether you pay $300 or $3000 for a stainless steel sink, it will scratch. After a while the scratches blend into a patina, and you don’t notice them. But if you truly don’t want scratches in your sink, you should not get a stainless steel sink. Get a different material like Blanco Silgranit or Kohler enameled cast iron. For a stainless steel sink in your size, I like to recommend the Elkay Crosstown ECTRU30179RTC which comes with a sink grid. Elkay is a good company, and their Crosstown sink has a corner drain.
