The main, and to me the biggest, advantage of the S405D over the S3560 is the sink bowl sizes.... The bowls in the 3560 are basically the same size (15"W) while the 405 has two very differently sized bowls.

In our old kitchen, we had a 2-bowl sink that had bowls that were approx 17" wide each...too big for small tasks & too small for large tasks. I really disliked that sink!

With our new kitchen, though, we now have a 2-bowl sink with one very large bowl (21-1/2") and one small. It gives us the "best of both worlds"...we have a large bowl for larger tasks (like cleaning out the roaster or cleaning our cookie sheets) while we also have a small sink for soaking utensils or for filling a pot or rinsing things when the big bowl has dirty dishes stacked in it.

Then there's the fact that the S3560 is $375 vs the S405D that's $250!

As you probably know, we have the S405D and really love it!

If you like the square look, have you considered the SS6502 (at $350)? It has similar bowl width sizes to the S405D. But, b/c both bowls are the same depth (front-to-back), they're shorter than the S405D's bigger bowl by a couple of inches to leave room behind it for your faucet, soap dispenser, etc.

buehl - for your S405D, since you have to mount the faucet above the split between the two sinks and not technically centered on the entire sink area, do you have any issues using the water/faucet on the left bowl side? Does it reach adequately? Approx. where does the water stream hit? Certainly it can't reach to the center of the bowl but do you find that it's hard to fill things when using the left side because of the faucet's location? Hope I'm explaining my question right...

In our last house it came with a triple sink with the small shallow bowl in the center. Because of that center sink location, the faucet stream was difficult to work with on the left and right bowls.

Sorry for barging, but a silly question for buehl: the tech spec at Galaxy says that the S405D needs a minimum 36.25" base cab. So that means no 36" cab because of that darn quarter inch, right? I know...really dumb question, but I wanted to make sure. My husband had laid out a nice sink run with a 36" cab in which everything lined up and looked pretty.

Fraid so Pickle2. Is there another sink that is the same size bowls and $ but different brand? We are looking at various sites and the prices truly do vary tremendously.

To answer the various questions:

Sleevepresto...No, we don't have any problems using the faucet in the left bowl. Its reach falls just short of the drain, so it's a few inches in. What's nice about my faucet, though, is that I can dock it in any position...so I can direct the spray/stream to other parts of the large bowl (I'll post pics at the end of this post). My faucet has a 9-1/2" reach, so when getting a faucet, I recommend something very similar...regardless of the sink you decide to go with. Double bowl sinks, in general, need the longer reach to reach both bowls.

BTW...You don't have to mount the faucet anywhere in particular, but if you want to be able to use the faucet in both sinks then you do need to mount it b/w them.

Pickle2...My S405D fit in a 36" sink base. When I was looking for sinks, my KD told me we that any sink at least 1/2" narrower than the sink base would work. At 35-1/4" wide, the S405D is 3/4" narrower, so it should work in your sink base. I should note that when I purchased this sink the exterior dimensions were listed as 35-1/8" wide...but that's just 1/8" less than the specs they list now. You may have to scribe the sides a bit, but several people have done this for other sinks with no problems.

Other faucets may also do this, so if you have your heart set on a different faucet, check to see if you can do the same with your chosen faucet. (You may have to find it installed somewhere to check as this is not necessarily mentioned in descriptions...I know it wasn't mentioned anywhere for my faucet...I discovered this while playing with it.)

Thank you buehl! You've been a great help. I think the S405D will give the kitchen a softer look rather than the harsh corners of the square sinks. The square design looks a bit too industrial to DH.

Now I want a faucet with a swivel head.
