I stopped at the house before work to take some pictures. There was no way that I would make it until 4:00.

Thanks for the info. I'm just surprised as I never had those issues at my old house, some grass, but by no means an invasion and I had Bermuda. It was like we are now on some acerage except in SW Austin. I wish we could do Buffalo grass (my first choice), but I got a huge no from DH on that one. He doesn't like how it looks and since we have Bermuda type hay grass in the rest he wants it to go with that. I much prefer a natural look, but its DH's first home so he's got to have some say too. You all have me worried that I was lucky and had some good variety of Bermuda at my old house that didn't do what you've seen and that I won't see the same here. I don't like the San Augustine at all (doesn't feel good on bare feet) and neither does DH due to the straw color with little water. Hmmm what can I do to talk DH into something else preferably buffalo grass, which I've already tried. Anybody know anything about Zoysia in TX? BTW we have plans for trees, but we need a guy to come in with a back hoe first to dig it out before we can plant so we can get some good dirt in a large area. Would take us weekends to dig ourselves.

Thank you guys for checking it out. Will post again when filled or after the cure time. I think I read here that it's 2 weeks for pebbletec to reach it's final stage. Is there really no swimming during that time. Is that 10 days or 14? I just don't know that I can stand to wait. gotpool - yes spa will go in the corner. I had them create the raised area 12X12. Spa is 8X8 and I want to find a reasonably priced gazebo, maybe 10X10. gk5040 - 20 questions not a problem - under the gazebo there was a poorly constructed pond. My sons convinced me to do the spa instead. I went with the midnight blue pebble tec. They just applied it today. Acid wash tomorrow. Tiles are fixed. They still went with slicing them up, but there are the same number of slices on both sides now. I'll show that when I upload the filled pool. My coping is a limestone from MasterTile (Torreon). I got very frustrated trying to decide on coping and tile. PB is also bringing a tan skimmer lid.

Well I did a reply to the latest posts, but I can't see it now...so as not to be seen to be ignoring the replies, here it is again, no doubt it will now magically appear...twice! @Marguerite, thanks for the name Blue Hale, I hadn't come across that one before. I'll amend its label, you know how I like my labels! @ Rina, thank you. No particular secret as to their size. Maybe because of growing them hard, they rarely get any fertiliser, they're watered infrequently and get no special care really and spend their lives confined to the g/h...it works and suits me fine:-) @ Richard, thank you too. The blooms have taken an absolute age to develop from buds to open flowers and seem to be lasting even longer now in full flower....just wish they didn't pong so much, it's really an unpleasant smell in there especially when the sun is out :-/ My regular jades also flowered, they take a fair while to get from bud to open, but these beat them hands down in the 'longest time it takes stakes'. They (the ones that do flower) all generally start to show the first signs of buds around Jan/Feb, but just last sooooo long. I've only ever got the ordinary plain ovatas and this one to flower...so far. Regarding the downsizing, yes they can certainly be cut down, but I'd still have to accommodate them in the house come the day my g/h falls down! Don't worry, it won't quite be yet :-) I just have to remember to place the plants to dodge the drips from the roof, hope one of the glass panes stays put as it's bottom frame has rotted and remember not to open one of the casement windows as I need to replace the hinges.....oh the joys of house ownership! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your kitchen! And, delighted you posted pictures of the wall o'windows. We have been struggling with bringing an upper cabinet to the countertop and not on the opposite side. Yours looks wonderful and I am now at ease in my decision making. Thank you!

I'm going to try to answer all of the questions. I apologize if I miss anyone.

stephct - the perimeter is granite (black pearl). I'm very happy with it.

Lake Girl - the finish on the island is called "food safe". They put an oil on it. The can is at the house, so I don't know the name off hand. So far my "angels" have gotten some apple pie and macaroni salad on it, and it wiped right off. My cabinet maker is getting me more information on taking care of it.

blfenton - it is a working top. I can chop, dice, slice, etc. but...it ain't happenin'!! ;) I won't baby it, but I don't plan on having a knife hit the surface. I think the most I will do now, is use cookie cutters and roll dough on the surface. It will be there for many years, so I'm sure I'll relax a little with time.

gardenamy - the cabinets were made by an Amish cabinetmaker in PA. They are custom cabinets. They are inset shaker style which were originally going to be beaded around the frame, but I asked for them not to do that (1) to save money and (2) because I thought food and grime might get into the crevices.

I hope I've answered everyone's questions.

Hi Robinson622, I posted this on an old thread but I don't think you saw it. Could you answer some questions for me about oxford cabinets?

1. Specifically, since they do not design, how do you figure out all the details? For example, Lucretzia (who doesn't seem to be on the forums anymore) had a stepped pantry design, the wood hood, the corbels under the sink cabinet, the different heights to accommodate the different ceiling heights? How did you choose those lovely legs on your island?
2. Did you give them all your appliance specs before they made the cabinets? Did they also install the refrigerator panels and the hood insert or did your contractor do that?
3. Is the paint color one of their standard choices? It is so lovely and calming.
4. Did you have too drive there every time with plans, or is there a way of faxing information in? It is a little hard to contact them since the phone availability is limited.

Hi Nancy,

Actually, I already had a general, very general, layout and I brought it to them (Jacob). I gave them the exact measurements of the room and some pictures for inspiration. You can have them come out to measure, but you'll pay for the trip...probably worth it. I told Jacob what I wanted and he worked with me to get/fit it all. They have many sample cabinet door and drawer fronts to look at and a book to look through to pick out your hood design. The corbels I assume are also through a book of pictures of kitchens they have done. Jacob mailed me a paper with several legs to choose from, and I circled the one I wanted and sent it back. We did a lot of mailing, but it only takes 1 or 2 days.

I gave them all of my appliance specs before they made the cabinets. My HVAC guy installed the hood insert

The paint color is one of their standard choices. BM dove white or white dove, I can't remember which. It is a soothing color.

They do have a fax number. I believe there are a few people that help them out with that stuff. Jacob Jr. doesn't do the faxing. He will talk on the phone, but he usually isn't there in the morning, his dad Jacob Sr. is, so Jacob Jr. usually ended up calling me back around 1 pm.

Good Luck! The craftsmanship is excellent, and the price is unbeatable...I think.
