How big of a deal is a granite seam?

We are working on our kitchen design and have a very large island (11 feet by 4 1/2 feet)in the design. However, after a little investigation, I am discovering that a single piece of granite that long is very difficult to find. Some exist, not many, but an extra long one would limit my color choice. At this point we can go ahead with the plan and just have a seam, or we can modify the island plan (making it shorter) to make sure we can find a single piece of granite to fit. The island will be all one level, in a lighter color (don't know if that makes a difference for a seam) with a farmhouse sink as the only "break" in the island. Is the seam a big deal? Would you consider changing a cabinet layout to avoid this?

Thanks for any advice or opinions!
