Base cabinets/counter 27" deep, pros /cons?
Comments (5)I love it so far, the few extra inches of drawer space enabled me to fit all my dishes perfectly. I also enjoy the extra counter space, but since our granite was just installed on Thursday I haven't done much with it yet! We have a broken L, meaning the fridge and range is on one wall, then there's a doorway, and the sink / dishwasher / dish storage cabs are on a separate run. We only increased depth on the sink / dishwasher run, so I can't speak to the range and over range area. That said, I did consider it. I was going to have a few inches of granite behind the range, which I was really looking forward to. I didn't go that route because of concerns with walkway width between island seating and adjacent family room...the extra depth would've eaten into it. As long as you have the space and the budget (ours did cost extra), really no downside as far as I can tell. I have full extension rails with soft close, so that is available for the deeper size....See MorePros and Cons of Thick Mitred Edge Quartz Counters?
Comments (4)This hinges on two questions: material quality and fabricator skill. I went with Silestone when I did my built-up mitred counters in five rooms (five years ago) and have had no chipping. But that's because my fabricator was great and does solid-surface work only. Ensure you get a great result by working with a fabricator who comes highly recommended, who creates a full physical template of your counter plan, and who understands your expectations about finish quality and durability. Do your homework and you can work together for lasting results that will stand the test of time. Cheers!...See Morepros vs cons of black counters
Comments (20)In response to the "dust" on black counters. Our counters are wiped down each day, so no dust issues. We tested it a few years ago and it took about 3 days b/f the dust collected and seemed noticeable. If you wipe down your counters regularly, dust won't be an issue for most people. Crumbs? Also not noticeable unless they're big. Fingerprints are also not an issue unless I have enough oil on my fingers (butter, olive oil) that leaves a big oily residue, but even with oily skin, that rarely happens. FYI...I like being able to see if there's something on the counters to wipe down...I hate it when I put my hand down and find something sticky that I didn't see b/c it was "hidden". I agree about the appliances -- you'll be replacing them sooner rather than later, so don't plan permanent/semi-permanent infrastructure items around them! The infrastructure items I'm talking about: floors, cabinets, counters....See MoreAdding a Bar Sink to Coffee Bar. Pro’s and Con’s?
Comments (4)Did you make a choice yet? I’m in the same boat. The main sink is on the island with eat-up depth and we have another counter on the opposite side to use for coffee/bar/serving area. Is the sink useful to reduce traffic at the main sink or is it better to keep the counter clear? There is a bathroom and a laundry sink right down the hall for additional hand washing so this sink would probably only serve to fill the coffee pot and dump/rinse glasses between drinks. There’s already a drain there so plumbing is easy. I’m leaning to no but worried I’ll regret it....See Morebopfletch
