Which of these 3 backsplash designs? Thanks for your vote!

Thank you for looking at these three options for behind the cooktop and indicating a preference (I have very little confidence in my ability to decide these things).

First is the glass tile that will be used. The rest of the backsplash is a limestone. At the bottom of this I've also including a (not great)photo of the granite.

So....option 1, 2, or 3 for behind the cooktop? You guys have helped with so many other decisions on this project I can't thank you enough.

I also prefer #1 - the others feel a bit busy making it difficult where to decide to look.

The green paint and the wood are the unifying factors in this kitchen. Loss of the green would be a loss but increasing the wood trim to make an apron below the windows would counterbalance the loss and would give the window the same aesthetic that is given in picture frame matting--the deeper matt is at the bottom of the frame. You would need some good wood finish that can tolerate the moisture and you would need to train the family to be diligent about caring for the wood. Once the hutch area is finished, you will feel the weight that it makes on the right side of the wall and will be glad to have the wood under the window to match it. Unfortunately, you would have to figure out what to do with those outlets under the window, sigh. I don't think that more little tiles will improve your design. If you need it for reason of utililty under the window, keep it as minimal as possible. Retain as much green as you can. This color will complement the view out the window and would enhance the look of foods. Bring in more of the green when you can--hand towels, a vase on the mixer wall, green stuff in the hutch if the hutch has glass in the doors, etc. ____ I need to think hard about my own advice. It applies to me as well. Am trying to decide about continuing the tile from a stove area to the space below a bank of windows on the next wall. I think I agree with other posters here--it's better to have the paint. Will I take this advice myself?

I can see why it might be advisable to remove the left/rt portions of tile, but I would be inclined to wait until ithe kitchen is completed before deciding. If, as your gut tells you, it "needs" to come down, nothing is really lost except a little more time with it up. Perhaps knowing you are not "locked-in" or committed to it, will help give the perspective to view it more objectively while deciding for sure. This way you will not only have the chance to see it with everything else in place, but you will also have the opportunity to get used to it, before deciding if you truly dislike it, or just haven't gotten used to it being there. As subtle (in color) as our tile is, after months of looking at white painted Sheetrock, it still looked "different" and stood out when we looked at our kitchen. Once we became accustomed to it, we couldn't imagine our walls without it. That's how I am with many things--after living with a blank wall or empty space for any period of time, even a long awaited piece of furniture or decor item jumps out at me, and almost seems like too much, until I get used to the vacant space being filled. Thanks for the compliments on our backsplash Laura and andreak100! It's the Opera Glass tile from Artistic Tile (Stilatto pattern) in Wolfgang White. It does read greenish-blue(-grey) in certain lights or times of day. We had to think about that one while deciding if we wanted to use it, and obviously decided to go for it! Good luck Laura! Hi Sauceyc, I see you got your Heath samples! I think based on the feel you want for your kitchen - beachy/funky/cool, the photos (which admittedly are hard to tell without seeing the real thing), I think you should go with the glass tiles in a colour similar to the French Gray. Somehow, I think that you are being lured by other backsplash options when you and your hubby are really feeling the glass, and it goes with the theme that you want. You just need to be able to feel confident that you've exhausted other options. Colour - I think the colour of the taupe glass tiles look like a "mistake" whereas the French Gray compliments your granite better. I think that having slight colour differences between the countertops and backsplash are okay. But I think that when you have busier, colourful granite like us, you need to pull a similar colour from the granite to tie it in, or risk everything looking too busy. Your beautiful Lennon granite has an undertone to it which seems to conflict with the taupe. See how your paint goes so well with the granite? I think you should find a glass tile that compliments your granite like your walls do. This is a glass tile we were considering. See how it "goes" with the granite so well in terms of colour? Pattern - I also wanted to comment on the pattern which you know very well, I LOVE. I know you like the running pattern of the Heath tiles and that my La Cornue ad inspired you which is great. I'll have to be honest that I'm concerned whether the pattern will work with your particular layout. The running pattern naturally "falls" from top left to bottom right, which gives a slight feeling of movement, which requires overall symmetrical cabinetry. Your range wall, while symmetrical in turns of the upper and lower cabs, has the fridge to the left which is a strong piece in stainless steel. I'm worried that it will look unbalanced...just thinking aloud here. Again, this is my two cents, I'm not a designer. Please take my opinion and consider with the others, as well as your own, because it is merely an opinion and I want YOU to feel comfortable with your decision!!! Do you have a designer you can consult with? It sounds like you feel pressured to make a decision before you're ready. Many people have said to me on this forum that I should take as long as I need.

Your kitchen came out just gorgeous! You must be thrilled. I love the tile, it sets everything off beautifully. I'm also admiring your faucet, since I'm looking for something similar. I work at HD and have not noticed this faucet. Hmmmm... The granite looks very much like several Giallo Vicenza slabs I've been looking at. I loved the gray tones many of them have blended in. I thought they were Giallo Veneziano, but the granite yard insists they're Vicenza. This was one of my top contenders til I fell in love with Crema Bordeaux. But the Vicenza/Veneziano does have a rich, old world feel to it that can be stunning with the right cabinets. Congrats on a beautiful kitchen!

Another vote for #1. However, I think putting the side accents on the diagonal might make it even more cohesive. My second choice would be option #3.

Okay, maybe I'm paranoid and reading too much into the "I like" responses...(I could chalk it up to this whole renovation stress)...but is 'like' code for "okay but not great"?
Should I keep designing? While #1 seems to be the favorite, maybe I should find a #4????

I like #1 too, and no I'm not bowing to the peer pressure! ;) I think it looks great, and why not quit while you're ahead?...accept the fact that you came up with a great design the first go round...run, dance, sing! Wish I could have done that! I like #1 because it has the greatest visual impact without being busy and I think it will be very striking and really make your hood area a focal point.

But.... It appears to me the mosiac palette may clash w/the granite. On my monitor the mosiac reads - pinks, brown, burgundy, gold -
Your granite has only one of those colors (on my monitor) that is some gold

No, not posting at all would be code for not being all that great. Don't read what's not there. You've got a terrific design in that first one (actually in all three, but I personally like the first one the best).

Before looking at the responses, I picked #1 as my favorite. #2 looks like something is missing in the center. #3 is fine, but #1 is much more of a focal point.

I think the red inserts are too casual for #1. Both #1 and #2 are too olde worlde for the cabinets. I'm afraid either #1 or #2 will also make the wall length appear shorter by chopping up the space - altho somebody could easily feel that either defined the space.

Just as side chat - usually, but not always, the hood trim on the front with curves is actually matched on the back with a straight line at the bottom. If true, the charming arch with the tile peeking through on the curve would never actually look like that. You might want to double check to be sure.

Number one is perfect. I like the square off row on the bottom and then the diagonal. I like how the inset mimics the square on the bottom and the glass mimics the diagonal outside the inset. Then again on the diagonal inside the inset. It's hard to say "I LOVE" from a drawing so don't worry. Once we see it with all the actual tile against the granite slab you'll hear louder "I LOVES".

I like the top one too. That was my first impression before I read any of the responses. I'm amazed at how it's almost unanimous. Sounds to me like you really have something there.

Thank you all = for helping make this decision and manage these emotions. In the up and down days of renovations - today was a downer (mainly for unexpected costs reasons).

Bmore - I am too fried right now to doublecheck what you're describing, but thanks in advance. I'll do so on a good night's sleep.

and jejvtr - thanks for checking in - and all of the website links. I think the glass in person looks good with the granite (hopefully a lot better than the computer & photos indicate). Oh no, more to worry about.

First, I love your glass mosaic tile. With the swirls and colors, IÂm sure it will just shine! IÂve been looking for something to sparkle amidst a field a white (?) subway tiles with a hint of a deep red color. I definitely vote for #1 and I would second debsanÂs suggestion to have the side accents placed on the diagonal, too! #1 makes a statement. #2 looks like somethingÂs missing and #3 diminishes the impact. IÂm thinking your heart liked #1 best because you placed it first! Listen to your first mind. Go for #1.
