What do you think of this rug?

Hi there,

I'm happy with the wool rug in our family room, but sometimes just want a change for a little while. (surprise!)

I like the coral pattern in this casual rug which I would use for summer months...

I could move the darker coral pillow to another room.

What do you think...would it be ok or maybe too busy? The size would be the same as the 1 we currently have.

(I think I need to move beyond this room and 'attack' other rooms in the house,lol)

I think it'd work beautifully in your room. Lively pattern, but not overly fussy. I don't know where you live, but regardless of region of country, it'd make for a great summer look.

The rug actually works really well with my current window treatments, which are roman shades topped with a valance: I've just been longing for woven wood shades and side panels. I wish that I could buy more of the fabric that I used for the valance and trim on the romans, but I made it from some drapery panels about 6 years ago, and they have been discontinued. I like the look of these panels from West Elm: I have to say, the rug is really growing on me. I got it at the most unexpected place - Big Lots - and it was only $128, and it's 100% wool.

gillylilly- It is a pottery barn rug which is sold out and they have no swatches. I have found it on eBay though. My main concern is the burgundy border since my sofa is a saddle or caramel color. My other concern is it may be too much green with the wall color. Still considering my options.

Squirrel...you found my "lost" site! I saved a rug from the Rug Studio quite some time ago but then somehow lost it...back again! Delta, I'm sooo happy you didn't buy that rug. :) Curious... is there some problem with the round mirror since several people have mentioned it? I went back and didn't see any negative comments on that but perhaps in an earlier post? To me it's the right thing to put there...it reflects a great view and light, the round shape is a nice contrast to the small windows, it's not competing with the wonderful paintings and adds a little sparkle in the room. What's not to like? Back to the rug... When I've found myself in your shoes I've gone out and brought home a few different rugs of varying colors/designs (with the intent of probably returning them ) and thrown them down as a test. I think just seeing what a different color/size would do to the room would quickly give you a good idea as to what direction to go. Maybe grab a seagrass just to have a neutral and test size? Usually I'm not crazy about rugs just a few feet under the bed footboard. It makes me think the right size wasn't available or the rug wasn't chosen with that particular room in mind...just looks awkward to me. If bigger, I like them at least 2' or so on the sides of the bed and more past the footboard. You'd also want a nice border of floor showing. If smaller, similar to what you have now. One thing I love about the rug size you have now is that it seems to create a "room within a room" in tandem with the chair/painting. I might scooch it a little bit more away from the bed legs perhaps. Another thing I meant to ask previously. Could wanting a larger rug perhaps just be a wish for more of a cocoon like feel in winter? Many of us do change with the season for that reason. I love my bare floors in my bedroom in the warmer months but I prefer a warmer, textured look in winter. You've mentioned the word "calming" previously...wondering how the room makes you feel?? This rug from the Rug Studio jumped out at me...to me it gives off the impression of a watercolor painting. Because it has no definitive "pattern" it doesn't compete with the paintings. The colors would be very complementary to everything in the room. I also wondered what you might think about a round area rug?? There's another similar to this that I saved. I know you were content to back away from this for awhile but thought I'd throw this out.

Love the rug - it would bring in some texture to the pretty room you have created. When you replace the navy blue coral pillow, I'd consider bringing in a bright throw pillow - I'm seeing red or orange.

I, too, think the room would look fabulous with some orange accents. Even without, it is already a very, very nice room!

I went ahead and ordered the rug..it was a good deal and if I don't like it, I'll drag it to my parents cottage (for my room at their cottage,lol)

I have a bunch of other pillows and I rotate them, but no orange. Might need to have a little look for those too:)

Wahhh!

I finally make a quick decision and ordered the rug today (it was showing on back-order to mid-November) and I just received an email from Williams-Sonoma saying 'Sorry-unavailable' and basically no idea if/when it would be back in stock.

So, I guess that it is that! Not meant to be:(

Oh no! What a disapppointment! I Googled "coral rug" and quite a few images came up that appeared similar to the W-S rug. Have you tried searching elsewhere for the same rug, or for one that would be close enough to work?

Such a bummer! That rug is great. Sorry that they are out of stock. You could always pop in a couple of throw pillows since that pattern looks so great in your space.

AuntJen-I'll have to do a search. Ellen-thanks for the suggestions too-I like them but am thinking I should just leave things alone in this room for now. (another idea...maybe sisal rug in the summer)

I have other rooms I need to get done and always come back to this family room...think I'll re-focus on our bdrm and guest room.

It makes me think a little of some Madeline Weinrib stuff.

She doesnt have any coral per se, and I don't know if that was important to you, but I think a lot of her stuff has a similar light feel.

mtnrdredux~Love Madeline Weinrib! A little more $ than the bargain price I could've had on the coral rug, but worth exploring. (one of these days, I have to get to ABC Carpet/Home in NYC...have always wanted to go)

Paulines~The side and coffee tables were purchased from a local store in Toronto area a couple of years ago (In Vu Drapery...they have some great decor too)I wish I could tell you name of MFR, but can't find anything...
