I can't figure out how to paint this section of my kitchen

I have the rest of my walls taped, but I can't figure out how to get to the area above my cabinets and countertops. I think if I put my 6' ladder on the countertop to the left and right of the sink, I might can reach high enough to tape and paint, but I'm not sure I'll be able to reach the area right above the sink.

I'm really stuck on how to handle the area above the cabinets. I have a 10' ladder that I've used for the rest of the house, but I can't move it close enough in here because of the lower cabinets. I can't fit my 6' ladder on the countertops here, because of the upper cabinets.

My mother has an extension ladder, but I would have to lean it against the upper cabinet and I don't know if I could damage them doing that. Any ideas how to get to this area?

Use the extension ladder but wrap a couple of towels around the part of the ladder that leans against your cabinets so it wont scratch. So what color did you decide on?

I decided to go with Lenox Tan, which was the 1st color I tried. The 1st time I tried it, it looked like a pinkish beige on my walls. Fortunately, I figured out they mixed it wrong and once I got the right formula, it looked great with my tile. I have two walls painted so far and it looks really good.

I know, that's why I'm so worried my whole crop will disappear without my being able to do anything about it. This is definitely a stealth "critter." Stems are eaten right down to the ground along with the leaves, which are *not* skeletonized. The photo shows the first typical phase: large chunk gone one day, bigger chunk later or the next day, gobbled down to the grround the next, then the next leaf gets started on and when that's gone, the next plant. You know how leaf miners love spinach and chard, laying their eggs inside and killing the leaves? Well, I was wondering if anyone knew what loves to eat chard like this. Some bugs love certain things. Nothing has touched my leaf lettuce sitting right next to the chard. Whatever it is likes chard and not lettuce. I've lived here for six months now and I've never laid eyes on a rabbit. I'm home most of the day, too, and see my garden from my kitchen window.

Oh yes, I absolutely love my Gagg steam oven! After enjoying it for almost two years, I know I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I had to, despite the outrageous price. I've learned to steam many of the things I used to boil---potatoes or shrimps, for example. It's much faster than waiting for a pot of water to boil, and if you're in a severe drought situation, as we were last summer, it saves water. For steaming small quantities, I use an inexpensive Chinese bamboo steamer, placing it on the wire rack; a 10"-diameter one works fine, and you can stack two if necessary. Usually, they come in three-piece sets (two round baskets plus a cover), but since you don't need the cover in the steam oven, try to find a place that sells them singly (sorry, I can't remember where I got mine). But stick with the steam oven, and don't be afraid to experiment a bit after you feel more comfortable with the knobs and buttons. I don't know your decor style, but a large folding screen could be placed against the wall in the living area to differentiate that area from the other area. A carpenter can build you one for not much money. It can be painted, embellished with molding or covered with fabric or wallpaper, any of which could give the effect of a different wall treatment. Another idea would be to mount multiple bookcases or shallow shelves of some sort against the wall in the living area. The backs of bookcases can be treated similarly to folding screen to provide a different color, texture and/or pattern to the area. It's a bit hard to make suggestions without seeing the room, though, so if you could post pictures, that would be helpful.

You will need to bring in your flooring samples into the space. Put down a white bed sheet underneath the samples and leave them on the floor. You will assess the floor samples THROUGHOUT the 5 lighting situations. If you see the same clash as what you currently have them toss that sample to the curb. You are the one who sees the clash. You have to be happy with the floors. A white washed plank might do it for you...but again the cherry dining set is the odd man out in your home's decor. Be aware the dining set is going to be an issue (as it currently is now). I suggest you remove the cherry set until you have found a decent floor option. In fact, I would remove it for now and reassess the clash during the morning hours. Just in case you are seeing a clash BECAUSE of the cherry. It is a simple thing that can remove ONE MORE variable. Think of it as a science experiment (which it is...remember primary school when we found about about light and prisms etc?...that was 'science class' for the day). Remove all the variables until you are working with only one. Then add in variables until you find the 'issue'. Technically your issue is the paint. But you want to keep it so we are trying to find a way to help you. Ideally you would repaint. It is the paint that is throwing the blue/gray...not the floors.

You need a scaffold board. FOr this to work, you have to have rungs of your ladders at the same height, and you lay 2x12 boards across so that you can reach what you need. Clamp the boards to the ladder for safety. To get to some of the areas, you can use your pony wall as support for one end of the scaffolding and the ladder for the other end, coming out perpendicular to the counter. You'll have to move it a lot more, but you should be able to reach most of the areas that way.

check out rental places too for scaffold to rent. May be simpler and safer.

If I use the extension ladder like Roseabbey mentioned, will I be putting any downward pressure on the cabinets? Is there a chance they could fall?

live wire oak- I'm trying to picture what you're describing. Would I have to fit two 10' ladders in my space with a board going between them? That still won't get me any closer to the wall above the cabinets will it? Maybe I'm just not picturing it right.

Try looking for an extension pole for your paint roller too. It will make life easier.
