I like them in the sitting area.

It is never a bad idea to have a couple extra chairs hanging around. Of the two choices, I would opt for the family room. They don't fit well with the sleek lines of the dining room set, although the color combination is attractive.

If it were my house, I would either put them in the basement and bring out at Thanksgiving, or place one in a guest room if I needed it.

The reason I wouldn't keep them in MY sitting room is they would be two more things to have to vacuum around, and I'm all about ease of cleaning. And at my house they would end up with magazines and dog toys stacked on them and a jacket hanging from the backrest.

At the heads of the kitchen table, due to their larger scale they feel a bit "momma" and "poppa bear" to me. I also think they work really well in your sitting room, especially if you put a little cocktail table in between them, similar to the stool you have now, but perhaps with glass shelves to make it feel more airy and not to obstruct the view out to the window.

I think they look fine in both places, but I like them in the sitting area best.

If you decide to take graywing's advice and put them in the basement and roll them out only on the last Thursday in November, let me know. I could definitely find a place for them.

I think I like them in the sitting area too, but does it look too cluttered? I do not like clutter.

Very pretty chairs! I like them in the sitting room also. Maybe they would look more like they belonged there if you put fabric cushions on them that complemented the colors in your other upholstered furniture?

I'm going to be a dissenter and say that I don't care for them in the sitting area. They look like an afterthought and it looks too crowded to me.

I do like them with your table. It is a bit unexpected, which I find refreshing.

I'm with creekylis. BTW, your home is just lovely. Can I ask what your paint color is?

Is there enough room that you could put one next to the refrigerator and possibly the other one across your nook facing the side of the fridge (so the two chairs would be looking in and facing each other) or you could angle them? I find it's nice to have a spare chair or two next to a table in case more people show up for dinner.

BTW, you have a beautiful home!

I like them in the sitting area -- BUT try the small round end table and lamp between them. THEN you'll have enough room to slide the dark chair closer to the sofa (even an inch or so) And then you'll have more visual space!

Or do try one by the fridge -- and try one in another spot in the house -- always handy!

But will anyone really chose a straight chair when other seating is available? I think they don't look very comfortable.
And the backs don't coordinate well with the dining room chairs, although I like the color combo.

My extra chairs live in bedrooms and halls, waiting to be pressed in to service.

I agree the scale does not work with the kitchen table. The sitting room is a possibility, though I would add a small center table and add fabric chair cushions--with the tie backs so you can always remove if you decide to put these chairs back in the DR. Another option would be to put one in your foyer if there is space and the other in an office, hallway, or guest room. Lovely space.

I've decided to leave the chairs in the sitting area. I plan to get them covered as soon as I can find something that I like. I found a small table. I wanted something small because it's not a huge space. I'm using a piece of granite that I've been holding for 3 years since the kitchen remodel as a table top. I really love this little table now. Was hoping to use this piece somewhere in this room and almost gave up hope. Any way here's the photo of the new table. Thanks for everyone's input. It sure is alot more fun and inexpensive than having to hire a decorator to help with all this stuff.

I like them in the sitting area but I would get a pillow for them that goes with your colors. Like the table there.

That looks beautiful, especially with the darling table and lamp and I will say that when my parents visit, they prefer a straight chair vs my cushy furniture. It's easier for them to get up. :)

lori..I think after I have cushions placed on the seats they will be pretty comfy. (especially with a foot stool).

Pretty chairs, but in the sitting area they look as though they've been brought in as extras. They'd look less so with back and seat padding. this would require sewing skills or having them made, which could be cost prohibitive. Something I must remind myself of occasionally: just because I have it and like it, does not mean I must always have it out. How about keeping one, add a good looking seat cushion and a throw over the back, and store the other. Oh! How about keeping them at the table and buying slipcovers for them( with a pad tucked underneath), and voila! You have the look you want without buying new upholstered chairs.Must say, I'm not sure where this type of slipcover can be found...Ballards, maybe?

I got the chairs padded and covered on the seat. I've decided to leave the back uncovered because I like the look of the wood. Here's the photo of the final details for now.

It now looks very integrated with the room and not just an afterthought. Loribee is right, older people often do prefer upright chairs and the cushion makes the chairs look much more inviting. Love the little table! I always think you can never have too much seating. I think your little Bichon agrees!
