Here we are!

Clockwise from front-left: cat_mom's DH, cat_mom, trailrunner, nycbluedevil, ellendi, ellendi's DH, trailrunner's DH, Annie Deighnaugh, Annie Deighnaugh's DH.

We had a terrific time! We met up at Eataly, and then walked a few blocks over, to a Turkish restaurant that Annie had heard was good, only to find out that they were closed until dinner! Not to fear, our resourceful group of GW'ers backtracked a couple of blocks to a cute little Indian restaurant instead. We all enjoyed some yummy food and lively conversation, and just reveled in meeting some of our "imaginary friends" IRL!

Fabulous! Everyone has big smiles, that tells the story. I love forum get-togethers and I'm happy that you shared.

I like hearing the feedback from first-timers i.e. first time meeting on-line serial whatevers. My DH had a tough time understanding that I was going across country (FL to MI) to spend 3 days with GW friends (years ago). He's use to it now and looks forward to the get-togethers.

OPh my. I go away for a couple of days, and Raeanne and Suzanne start the French Lick party without me! LOL! For everyone's infomation, all 3 of mine are the truths! (JK!!!LMAO!) I guess Suzanne is # 3 Raeanne is # 2 Well, it is a quiet Saturday night here. Rog went to bed early, and I'm watching Flashdance, and thinking OMG--did I ever really wear torn sweatshirts?? (yep.) I think that's why I love to watch old(er) movies--for just a second, I am back to an age where there wasn't any major problems, and I still believed all people were good, and the whole world was open for the taking. :):) OK--advice needed--mom keeps wanting me to come over and watch some 2+ hours, B&W, 1940 movie with who-knows in it (I've never heard of them). At the risk of sounding like a cold-hearted @#!^%, I have NO (none, el zilcho, nada) desire to do this--heck, I don't even have the time to watch what I actually want to watch, much less this thing. Now, I know how important spending time with her and dad is, and I enjoy just sitting around yapping, but our choices of movies are a complete 180. The last time I got coerced into this, I pr@yed to die of boredom, and then fell asleep. It was a truly aweful movie, and part of me resents being guilted into this. We're fixing Christmas dinner for Christmas Eve to take over, before we go to Midnight services, and mom brought up this d@mned movie again. Gawd, I'll watch it, but I'd rather be sh0t--any suggestions? (I really am not being cold, I would just rather sit around and talk--and she knows this.) Anyhoo--hope this finds everone well! When are we going to reveal the truths? Hugs, Maddie PS--Suzanne, I got your package yesterday, but I couldn't get my x-ray glasses to work! Darn piece of cr@p!! LMAO!!

Some people have seen these pictures ad nauseum, so I apologize, but I am a big supporter of both honoring the historic fabric of the structure while furnishing the house for your own aesthetic, for comfort, for whatever. My apt is 1838 so most of the units never had any kind of ceiling fixture at all, and the first floors at some point had a chandelier mounted at the medallion. Only the Gentleman's Chest and the Japanned cabinet on stretchers would be vaguely "period" in this room, all the rest is modern. (The wing chair is the wrong period, too). But when I bought this place I actually emphasized the 1838 by stripping anything off the perimeter that wasn't period. In the hall I did put a fixture that was at least "more" period appropriate, although modern fixture would be okay too. The public hallways mostly have fixtures like this: And I think something like this could work in your LR if you did not want another large drum shade. I would consider putting the current LR fixture in place of the small bell at the vestibule door, if you don't store it away. Personally I like the tension between historic elements attached to the house vs modern contents.

Looks like such fun! But hang on a minute. Trail lives very far away... Trail, did you travel all the way to NYC for lunch??

What strikes me most is how happy the DHs are! You know, I can envision at least some of them grumbling about meeting up with imaginary friends prior to the event, but they all look happy to be there! (And maybe relieved that these imaginary friends didn't turn out to be crazy stalkers?

Great time was had by all ! The DH's never stopped talking ! I am surprised they ate a bite...really...they all hit it off wonderfully well.

My DB and SIL live on 55th on the West side and have since after Katrina...long story . I have visited them since 2007 when we had the first GW NYC get together. It has been 2 years , unfortunately , since the last time DH and I were able to get up here. We are here for a week and having a great time. 30-35 mile bike ride out to Coney and Breezy Point yesterday and then in to the City to hear Stanley Jordan at Iridium. We do as many jazz clubs as possible due to DH's jazz piano background.

Anyway we are here till the 27th then heading slowly home via VA Beach and maybe Chapel Hill NC.

It was so great to meet "new" GW friends and as always cat_mom and her DH are 2 of our "oldies" that we never get enough of. I hope others will join us on the next go 'round of GW meet ups. c

What an awesome picture! I would love to meet up with some GWers though I don't know of any in the Midwest and the only time I travel anymore is to spend time with Hubby in Cali when we're heading to Hawaii to visit our daughter and family.

How neat! My dh cringed the first time I wanted to meet internet friends but since then we have become really good friends with another couple even though we only see them every year or two.

I'm so happy for all of you who were able to make it to the get-together . . . what fun that must have been! Thank you for posting the pic, as well.

Oh, what a marvelous picture! I am so glad you all had fun, but not surprised. How could all such nice people not? I love that all the DHs had fun, too. Thanks for posting the picture.

If we ever do a DC area one, I am in for sure!

Awesome!! I believe I was there at the inaugural one in 2007. I know trail and cat mom were there and we had a super duper time- and there were quite a few of us- but I cannot remember who else. Glad you enjoyed- looks wonderful

That was the second one we had that you had attended, sheilaaus122.
First one was at Nice Matin (rococogurl's suggestion). Second one was at Blue Water Grill, as was the third one. Fourth one was at Spice Market. That would make the one pictured above #5. :)

They've all been a lot of fun!

Justgotabeme - I am a Midwesterner, Illjnois. Would've to meet some GW friends. I was in Philly for a conference (just left today) and hoped to meet for lunch with some GWers. It didn't workout. Message me on my page and perhaps we can make it work in the Midwest.

Love seeing this photo! I had the chance to meet at least 6 in the area of Richmond and Williamsburg Virginia a few years back before leaving Yorktown to move back to Florida for retirement. I LOVED seeing the 'surreal' GIRLS IRL! They were exactly as I thought they were! And we were like strangers who already KNEW a lot of us... hearing 'This is like what you have in your house, MR...' was like... 'this stranger I am with has seen my house'!!! LOL how FUN..because we ALL shared a common interest!

And even after I moved away from them, we are all still close friends on FB and by email... we still share ideas....

I will soon be searching out people in Central to South Florida area, I have already met some on FB.

DID we EVER think that our days of being on decorating boards could turn into life-long friendships?

LOVE stories like this and the photos!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
