Stonehouse trip should be white

I would probably do the stone house trim in the grey, and demarcate the back entry door to the house by painting it grey.

I don't think it is necessary on the garage doors unless you want to highlight them.

The barn could go either way. You could make that trim grey to keep the trim consistent between outbuildings, or keep it white.

I think you should do what looks best for the stone house....it is so different from the rest anyway that it doesn't need to match.

We have 2 small outbuildings on our property which DH painted to match the house and it looks great. But our 200 year old barn is still barn red with white trim....as it should be.

HG on stone house because it will be mellower with the stone. I don't think anything on other structures absolutely has to be HG, although, if the barn is similar stone, you could use HG there, too.This comes frome a stone freak. (We were wed in Montecito because I loved the stone walls there, and we live in a stone house.)

HG on the stone house for sure.. you don't want the same feel as the main house and the white will immediately change the enchanting vibe. Like the others, I dont think it is necessary to add the HG to all the other out buildings but I do like Pal's suggestion of just hitting the back door with HG..

Definitely the HG on the stonehouse, white is way too harsh for the stone. You're right on this one. I agree that you needn't cross pollinate the color. The stone house stands on it's own.

On a serious note - I would go with the gray...keeping with an old, aged look. You don't want "crisp".

I would stick with a white shade for the windows. Even though I get your point about wanting the stone house to look as though it's been there forever, that doesn't mean the windows have to fade into the stone. If you choose a softer white, it can still have the look of age but with a better definition. After all, the glazing will also be darker if the windows are very shaded by eaves.

As to the gray, there could be a case made for painting the window frames white, but still employing the gray judiciously on other surfaces throughout your property--- like the exteriors of doors. The garage door just depends on the size, type, and location. Dark garage doors can be fabulous-- they can lend gravitas to an otherwise humble entry, or call unwelcome attention to an ugly, ill-placed feature. As usual, context is everything. At least you won't put those fake hinges and things on your garage door to pretend it is a stable. That's one trend I just do not understand!

Can you see the stonehouse from the main house; does it read as a whole?
I think I would follow one scheme for all external doors, and if it were me it would be a color.

I am using FnB lime white on the interior trim (except for the ceiling). I will try that just for comparison, I hope it wont look like a near miss. Here is the Hampshire Grey test:

We need to get new garage doors anyway, which will be a whole nother post someday.

I don't think it read as a whole. But I would not do ALL exterior doors in HG. We have a oddly pourous house. We have a double front door and then a front to back hallway with a back door (that is the one I might paint HG, but it has very little wood so I'm not sure, to wit:)

But if we did all exterior doors... there are double french doors all the way around the pool building, and another set to the greenhouse. There are double french doors from the DR to the back patio. Then there is a single french door to the side, one to the garage, one from the LR to an interior courtyard, from the LR to back patio, from the side to the mudroom, from a powder room that connects to the pool, and I think I still forgot some. Oh yes graage doors on our little "barn" and on our garage. The only ones in the running are the back door to the center entry hall, and barn and garage doors.

You can't see the stonehouse from the main house, except maybe from the pool when the leaves are bare. Even then not really. And the only place you see it when you are walking the far side of the pond (below, the stonehouse is all the way to the left, where the ladder is)..

Mtn, I love the look of the Hampshire gray on the muntins in the closeup picture, but when I looked at the photo from across the pond (lol) I still think the windows should be white. It can look as though it's been there forever and still belong... White paint is the most historic, isnt it, starting out as white wash or limewash? I will say that the darker color will hide dirt that much better, although when the white gets dirty it will be that much darker :-) I guess honestly if it were mine I would paint all the windows on one side gray and on another white, and then decide. Looks like it is coming on very well, the roof pitch is perfect!
