Comments (15)I had never even HEARD of meningitis until 17 years ago my youngest son was 5 weeks old and he woke up with a very high fever...I took him to the doctor and she followed us to the hospital...suspecting Meningitis...they immediately spinal tapped him and put him on antibods for 4 days until the culture came back that it was the Viral kind...still scared the bejeesus outta me and of course I was in that room with him the four days he was there and got it too...it was awful...even the bottom of my feet hurt...I guess ignorance was bliss cause I had no idea how dangerous the bacterial kind was or is... It's so very said to hear that it seems to be more prevalent these days...I remember the nurse at the health department asking if we wanted the vaccine against it...she was really surprised to hear we had gotten the viral kind...who knows from where......See MorePit bulls kill 7 year old boy
Comments (34)People bred the pit to be aggressive and now people are upset that they bite. Until laws get passed against the PEOPLE who breed and misuse them nothing will change. If pits are outlawed the idiots will find another big dog to make aggressive. Some people just love the idea of having a big dangerous dog and some sick people get off on watching them fight. I have rescued and euthanized 3 dogs for aggression. Two were pit bulls, one was a German shepherd and all had been abused. Two other equally abused German shepherds are the world's sweetest dogs and my pit girls are dolls. Every dog is different and you just can't lump them together by breed, which is what BSL does. They need to be evaluated as individuals and aggressive dogs do need to be removed and even that gets into that slippery slope of taking away our rights. Izzie, no dog attacks out of the blue. People may not know what the trigger is and we can't ask the dog. I use an animal communicator, something most people scorn. But something made that collie bite the little boy. What a pity it cost so dearly in harm to a child and death for a dog. livvysmom, if you or your children has a friend with one of the breeds who has been known to be aggressive and they do not keep the dog far from the children you should not go there. They are not being responsible and your child is not safe. I KNOW my dogs will not bite. When a child comes over they are not allowed near the child with the exception of 3 of my dogs who I know adore children and then only with supervision. My son was raised with my Dobermans, German shepherds and rescue dogs without incident, but not everyone is so fortunate. By the way, the worst bites I've gotten have been from those yappy little toy dogs. My Shih tzu/Yorkie is the most aggressive dog I've ever owned. Fortunately at only 12 pounds she doesn't do much damage and the big dogs just think she's funny....See MoreHelp with my 2 year old's 'big boy' room
Comments (18)Thanks for all the feedback! We're living in a rental right now while we're building. My son's room is yellow now & I just do not like it. I was thinking of a green, something just a tad bit darker than what's in the quilt. I almost bought some red curtains on clearance from JC Penney's, but wasn't sure how they'd look w/ a green wall. Red was the only color on sale. My mother in law suggested painting one wall blue or red & the rest a neutral beige. I just don't know. I am not good at this!! I want to use a color that we can use for at least the next 5 years. I hate to paint!! Oh, we're giving him our old BR suit & it is a maple color....See MoreDay bed for 11 year old boy?
Comments (11)I bought my son a daybed when he was ..16 I guess? And he saw it as a huge upgrade and said "oh wow it's so grown up!" I must say though that my son is easy to please, in many instances. It's twin btw He's a thin boy, medium height, now he's 19, and it's good enough for both him and girllfriend when they come for a break from college. The girlfriend is slightly taller than him) (just to add -not that you need that info-that first time her visiting, it was a guest room for a young lady..then the request was put in..then I said she should clear it up with her parents..ok you get the picture-the bed is big and comfortable enough)) With daybed you control the mattress same as with regular bed, which is cool, 'cause frankly I'm very glad I got ours on huge sale, they wanted 1200$ or so for the bed that I with lots of patient waiting was able to buy for 400$-and let me tell you, 400$ reflects its quality more..Or so I think. But it looks good, and holds the mattress, Ours is from West Elm. It doesn't have the trundle so it's normal height We have another daybed with a trundle in a guest room, that one is higher. It's somehow very cool to fall asleep on, (unless one is elderly and it's too high and then I use a trundle if needed) but I wouldn't say it prompts one to use it more like a sofa. While lower daybed does. As for making the bed-all my childhood I would strip the bedding off in the morning, make the sofa bed look like a sofa, and pretty one too (my Grandma had a whole system I had to follow) , then put all the bedding back at night. Both me and my brother's bed . And on school breaks, I had to do the same for rest of sleeping spaces in the house.. We didn't have dedicated bedrooms with beds that looked like beds, so there you go. Matter of minutes, really. I agree that with bunk beds, it's harder. Well to me it's harder-I'm a small woman who doesn't like to climb anymore))...See Moretibbrix
