Thanks to all for your suggestions. To clarify a couple of points raised. The wall behind the right third of the range is even and level with everything to the right of the range. I believe it's because it's one piece of sheetrock that comes to the frame behind that part of the range. The left 2/3 of the range is slightly skewed or recessed. Again, I think it's because there's a new piece of sheetrock and slightly recessed framing behind that part of the range and wall (apparently the framing wasn't touched by the new contractors and it was an unevenness that existed with the house). In any case, the range can never be flush because there are 2 "different walls" behind it. I like the thought of covering the gap with SS to make it look like a filler piece that likely won't get noticed and will cover the gap, as well as cost much less. The contractors actually suggested that as well as a possibility. By the way, our contractors did everything except floors and granite. The granite and floor guys were great - they actually noticed other areas of unevenness but because there was no continuous granite, I think the granite guy didn't notice it and simply squared each piece of granite to each respective piece of wall. We've discussed the "should" of the contractor having to cover it. We'll see now if they do what they should because they should have caught this earlier. Depressing, sad, etc... The thing is, the contractors are actually really good, creative, etc. -- they are just CARELESS and HASTY. It's the craftsmanship that seems to be lacking these days. BUT, we're just about done and will post pictures of the final product soon. Thanks again.

Lets say it is out of spec/standards Do you have a Permit a real contractor and A Contract? what do you hope to gain by posting this on multiple forums? If you have done all the proper paperwork and have documentation you even then may not have a case. Most everywhere in residential Namerica tile projects are not inspected (other than a shower base or pan & drain ) nor have any local standards to follow. This is why homeowners like you need to document things, get a contract that spells out tile standards that are non existant at the local level. If you have none of that you left yourself unprotected and are learning a hard lesson.

I feel for you, OP. The tile work in both of my recently renovated baths is not what I expected (and I even chose tile to minimize lippage and other problems (ceramic, matching grout color, small and common size, tile guys favorite brand) - but still plenty of install issues), despite enormous cost (to me, not for my area). I dont have wisdom to help u fix it, unfortunately, but know this is common - all my friends talk about similar reno issues. Depending what it would cost to change the lighting, compared to cost of redoing the tile with smaller tile, if it was pricey either way I'd do the latter. I wish I had ripped out our master bath tile. Bugs me daily. PS no you aren't guaranteed to get perfectly straight walls with new wonder board. We are finishing 2nd of two new construction or full gut (including studs) master bath size bathrooms. All new studs, floor, walls, ceiling, insulation, durock, etc. Not one wall is perfectly plumb or straight - although most people cannot see that. I can because the 3x6 tile doesn't line up and/or isn't plumb in spots. Turns out wood studs aren't perfectly sized or straight, let alone human margin of error. Even if we had used metal studs, the gc showed why things wouldn't be perfect.

you have a great opportunity to make that wall a focal feature. so many things you could do. I would wall mount the tv and do a console a bit longer than the span of the tv. builtins on either side or shelving for your plants. here are a bunch of photos showing tv/sofa layout. don't look so much at the style, just the layouts. some have a fireplace so ignore that and just imagine a console in it's place. just one sofa facing the tv w/chairs in opposite corners. (this layout could work for the super deep sofa size) same set up as your room. (ignore the style!) sofas facing each other. if you want super deep sofas, I don't think this layout would be ideal for that size. layout using a sectional Find a vintage mcm console and use it below the tv. look at Article for sofas in my own space I used the Article black leather sofa, the bench and walnut chair, and I have a vintage Brasilia console.
