Help finish my garage sale ebay room off before sis comes (pls)
Comments (22)I have moved the table behind small chair (chair is getting cream w/ black zebra throw) more central to window as suggested and I like it. What do you all think of a glass swag light in that corner sort of like this? Or, maybe something similar but more contemporary? http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af170/jterrilynn/?action=view&current=swagebay.jpg" target="_blank"> I'm also not opposed to painting the fake fireplace TV stand and was toying with this color.but should I? http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af170/jterrilynn/?action=view&current=darkpurplepaint.jpg" target="_blank"> I really want a small side table/stool for the side of my chair (big enough for a wine glass) but not flimsy so the dogs will knock it over. I think I need something with some shape but not sure if I should bring a bit of dark cherry there or something colorful like an outdoor type ceramic stool that will double as a little table. I would like something interesting. I'm feeling like I'm getting closer to making the room look finished but still very stuck on lighting near sofa. Please keep the ideas coming as they are helping a lot!...See MoreGarage sale makeover pics + 'Can this door be saved?'
Comments (48)Do you need the all the light the glass in the door provides? When you are done with the project maybe add a red curtain covering the entire glass area. What I am referring to is a curtain with a rod on both the top and bottom completely covering the glass area and the curtain is held taut. You have a red lampshade in the foyer already. A red curtain on a brown door won't look jarring. From the outside view the red curtain showing through the glass with the red painted exterior would give the illusion that it is a solid red door from the street view (sort of). You could use a very sheer red material that would still let some filtered light in....See MoreWhy have garage sales changed?
Comments (39)Many people I know put their stuff on CL or Freecycle community boards now. Less hassle than setting up a garage sale and sitting all day in your driveway. Small things are either put in a "Free" box on a curb or hauled off to Goodwill. There are a couple of high income enclaves near me that hold annual community sales. Those neighborhood sales have been dwindling over the past 3 or 4 years. Last summer I drove through one of them, and it was mostly pots-n-pans, children's toys and clothes. Very little furniture or other substantial stuff compared to 5 yrs ago. Fewer households participating as well. There's also a low income neighborhood close by. They don't hold community sales, but the residents often have garage sales in summer. I guess the poorer folks try to squeeze some cash out of their stuff. I never go there because it's mostly junk....See MoreOur guest room looks like a garage sale!
Comments (37)I think you have great pieces to have a really great room. My problem is more with your current layout. I think if you moved the bed to the opposite wall where the mirror and table is the room would feel larger and more open. I feel that the natural walkway in any room should be from the door directly to the back of a room. I hate that the bed is blocking that natural path. Then you wouldn't have to deal with having the bed off centered so you can open and close the door. It's also a plus to be able to easily see the door from the bed. A queen bed is a plus in a guest room but if it's not in the budget at least get a headboard. You can pick them up real cheap at garage sales, thrift stores and Craigslist. Newer ones have places to use for both full and queen beds. Don't get a bed with a footboard. They tend to make the room feel smaller. I like the color of the sham you bought. fold your quilt in half the long way and place at the foot of the bed so it drapes farther down the sides. I like the idea of placing the mirror between the 2 doors. Full floor to ceiling drapes to soften the look with a nice comfy chair for reading angled in the corner across from the door by the windows to take advantage of the natural light and view. With this layout your rug is the statement piece of the room... the first thing you see when you walk in the room. I love that it is a family piece you want to use. My own guest room has things from my family and we call it grammas room. this picture was taken from the door in my old home showing the layout I'm suggesting with quilt folded at the end of the bed....See Moregmp3
