Garage sale makeover pics + 'Can this door be saved?'

I found this cute light fixture at a garage sale last Friday for only $10! It was polished brass (not my style), but I loved the shape it had, and thought I could paint it to better match my style.

Here is the one at Ballard that I almost ordered for $120:

And here is the one I painted for only $10. (Had to mount it flush to 8 foot ceiling):

Now, this leads me to my next problem. My ugly-as-sin front door. I've hated that front door since I saw the house. It's dark green on the exterior, and has always looked like a mock-victorian design, which does NOT match my house.

I saw my3dog's front door after she stripped it and refinished it, and now I'm wondering if the front door could be saved. (Notice in the pic below that there is massive overspray on the glass and the perimeter. This is because I didn't even bother taping it off when we painted, as I was planning to just throw it away.

Right now, I don't have the $750 to replace the door, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with mine.

I've tried to convince myself that it could be really cool. I've tried to imagine the exterior side painted red or black, but I just can't "see" it looking it good. I hate it!

Would it look better stripped to the wood? Painted a darker color?

What do you think?
