Cleaned out the garage! Have garage sale or donate extra stuff?
Comments (13)I love going to garage sales. Here's my take on it. Some people have garage sales where they are selling about $15 total worth of stuff. My sister who comes with me sometimes always marvels at these sales. She can't fathom why anyone would sit in their garage all day for that bit of money. My answer is, well, because they enjoy it! There are people who really don't have a lot to do and enjoy sitting there, striking up conversations with customers, etc. For them, a low $ garage sale isn't so much about the $, it's about the activity itself. The $$ are just a bonus. So... in your case, I'd say donate. I love going TO garage sales, but in my life I've had only about two of them, both times selling large items (furniture and such), thus making it worth my while. You kind of have to use dd50's logic. Estimate how much you will make vs how many hours you'll be sitting there and come up with an amount per hour. Then figure if your time is worth that or not. If not, skip it and donate....See MoreIs anyone having a Garage Sale this year?
Comments (24)I've had three already in the past 6 weeks and I've done very well. I'm a plantlady (interiors, businesses, residences etc) and with this economy we have lost a few accounts and some plants were coming back to the office from the leases (most accounts own their plants)and we don't have any room for them there. My boss asked me if I wanted them as he was going to throw them out. I jumped at it and took them home. I had already been giving plants to all of my neighbors and freecycle as I get them all the time when we replace plants but here I had a few dozen 5-8 foot plants so I had my roommate make up a sandwich board type sign with signs and arrows on both sides so peeps could see it coming or going down our main street which is just a few houses down the block. WOW! We had people coming by all day and I sold almost every plant. My roomate was amazed at the traffic. I told him to look for tools he didn't want (he had tons of stuff as he's a special effects guy in the studios) and we'd add another sign to our "plants for sale" sign on the sandwich board and see what happens. Guys like tools and Holy Camoly! We were sooooo busy. I had more plants to sell and we did really well that weekend. The third time it was a mix of stuff, plants and tools. I made close to $1000.00 and Bill made in the area of $2500.00. Not too bad for three days work and we got rid of a lot of stuff just sitting in the garage too. The second time we had the sale I had a big pot of chicken and rice soup on the stove and quite a few peeps were shopping while holding a hot mug of soup :-) It was chilly and damp that day. We had some fun, met some neighbors and city council members and made a few bucks. Patti2...See MoreJust speculating on making changes to make better sale. Long, so
Comments (2)My concerns, if I were looking to buy your home, would be that the dining, living and family rooms are well-located with a nice traffic flow, pleasing windows that match the rest of the house, and finishes that work well with the older parts of the home. If the family room feels like a garage, has garage-like windows, or an inconvenient or non-existent entry space, a big closet in the master would not overcome that for me. If the dining room is finished like the kitchen, and feels more like a kitchen than a dining room, then I wouldn't care whether you had 3 closets in the master. I If the modified and already-added spaces were pleasing to me, then the bigger closet would be frosting on the cake. It sounds like your neighbors cared more about expanding personal, bed and bath space than about living areas. Or perhaps the change to the bedroom areas is more natural and cheaper given how the homes are laid out and oriented on the lots?...See More100 garage sales........
Comments (5)I just love yard sales. Since this is a metro area, there are neighborhood sales just about every weekend except in the heat of summer. Tomorrow, there are six advertised just for our city, and each says there will be 30 - 40 sales. So, tomorrow instead of walking the treadmill to get my stamina back, we're going to one of the neighborhood sales and I'll walk their streets instead. LOL! Good luck in finding bargains!...See Morelazy_gardens
