Sub Zero with water in door--anyone have it?
Comments (2)Borngrace, this helps SO MUCH!! thank you. We were stressing. I watched a video (on another post) about a kitchen. It had a fridge like this but they put the handles up too high (IMO) and we worried they did that b/c they had to. This is a relief. Thanks....See MoreReplacement Door for SubZero
Comments (4)Anything can be done. The question would be whether it would be any cheaper than replacing the whole unit. Call your local repair agent and get a quote for parts and labor. It's the only way to know for sure. Is there any time left on the warranty? That may also influence your decision. I doubt you can get a new door yourself and make the fix yourself (though it's worth a call!), and the chances of finding someone demoing the same unit in better condition than yours are slim. I think it's worth any money to hire a moving company to move appliances. Even if you move the rest of the house yourself. They usually rent by the hour, with a minimum of 3-4 hours, and they know what to do (you can ask specifics if you want to know more). I don't know if this was your plan all along, but you didn't specify. Good luck with your move!...See MoreSub Zero - 48 inch - What's your experience been
Comments (22)Brian, I see you have made your decision but I just wanted to add my 2c. In my main house I have the first model of Subzero 48 with water and ice dispenser in the door. it is now 28 years old. . The iceline has finally died but it is not worth the cost of replacing it. Otherwise It is still working well. I do have an additional small undercounter refrigerator for sodas and a freezer in the basement. That freezer would never be enough. In a different house we had the 48 inch without the internal dispenser and it was such a pain. I missed that dispenser in the door. I am doing a kitchen reno in my beach house and replacing the 4th french door refrigerator i have had in this kitchen and which I loathe with a passion. No question; I am only considering a subzero. I want the dispenser in the door again as this is a feature we use all the time. However the dispenser on the subzero is short and cannot accommodate Yeti 30 oz cups which is what we use so I might land up having to open the door for water and ice anyway....See MoreDoes anyone have any experience with the SubZero IC-24C?
Comments (8)@Aglitter and @megs1030 - thank you for your feedback! This is a remodel, not a new build. It is a pretty busy kitchen and has been even more so with everyone working and schooling at home! I have 3 teens who do a lot of smoothie-making and microwaving and toaster-ovening. So it would be nice for them to have the main fridge and freezer near the kitchen table end of the kitchen (and out of my prep zone). However, I have read so many of the layout experts on here recommend that the fridge not be too far from the prep zone. So this combo unit seems like a good way to deal with that concern. It could be used for veggies, ingredients and sauces used only in cooking (broth, herbs, soy sauce, worcestershire), raw meat or seafood that is defrosting for the next dinner, etc. The main fridge and freezer would have snacks, condiments, all beverages, leftovers, frozen smoothie ingredients, frozen waffles, french fries, ice cream, etc. I have been hesitant about posting my layout ideas here because certain folks are so dismissive and their only advice is "get a KD." The only plans I have at this point are my own preliminary ideas because I want to work with a specific KD on this project and she is not going to be available for a couple of months due to some personal issues. I am happy to wait for her, because she is that good. In the meantime, she has given me a little "homework" of researching the appliances and starting some preliminary thinking about my wish list and layout. Once she is available, we will be able to get together and hammer out the details. Until then, I've been trying to gather my thoughts and ideas and start thinking through the many options. Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and post some of my layout ideas and try my best to not let the house kitchen bullies upset me. ;)...See MoreBoopadaboo
