I haven't gone to the DDC in a loooong time, but Kacey Fine Furniture is good. Depends upon what style you are looking for though.

Hello Almost Neighbor!

Our Boulder house is home to the furniture from our CA house, so we didn't purchase much new furniture ... we did purchase an inexpensive loveseat (~$350, inc. delivery -- they were having a special, but I think they're always having specials!) for the playroom from Sofa Mart and it's great. It is comfy and has withstood toddlers for about eighteen months now. We also purchased a sleeper sofa (AU Furniture) from Concepts Furniture in Boulder, but they tend to have a more modern aesthetic. They are a small store but nice to work with.

I have been to the Denver Design Center a number of times for fabrics. Because I'm a looky-loo non pareil it was heaven for me, but it's pretty small. Pretty small, esp. when compared to some of the larger design centers, like the Blue Whale in LA or the Design Center in San Francisco (and I can only imagine what it's like back east!).

It's also quite expensive, both the to-the-trade areas and the retail. I didn't have a designer, so I just used their service where a designer popped down to write the order up for me. I should find her name, because she was good for two reasons: 1) she charged me minimal mark-up because I knew exactly what I wanted, so all she had to do was write it up (she didn't have to walk me around or spend much time with me), and 2) she had good follow-through. She'd insisted on a sample and it turns out the shop (Egg & Dart) had written the fabric code incorrectly so the wrong colorway was sent. (It was what Egg & Dart had ordered, but not what we had requested.) Anyway, because of that she caught it and then she made sure when the fabric had arrived that I was pleased.

On my way downtown I've driven past Kacey, a beautiful old brick building. I believe they have a wide selection of furnishings. ???

Brooke! I wrote you back the other day after I read your response to my kitchen photos and gave me the link to your post that I somehow missed. You can check it out if you want. Anyway...we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be moving on either October 30th or November 1st.
I was thinking that I'd use the DDC for fabrics too..did you just order the fabrics and then bring them to an upholsterer or drapery person yourself?

Howard Lorton is the venerable retail store on Broadway (there are quite a few furniture and rug and antique stores on Broadway just south of downtown).

Cherry Creek North has a lot of home furnishings stores: HW Home, Arhaus, Crate and Barrel, Calico Corners, and more. And great rug stores!

Then farther south near County Line Road, from University to Park Meadows mall, you can find Colorado Home Furnishings, Stickley, American Furniture Warehouse, Woodley's, Ethan Allen ....

I don't know too much north of downtown, though. Any particular brands or price range?

Thank you very much! You've been very helpful. I was thinking of Mitchell and Gold for sofas and chairs and my upholstered bed. Haven't thought much about where to purchase occassional tables and floor/table lamps.

My issue is I don't want it to take too long for the furniture to be delivered but I don't want to compromise on quality and I don't want everything to be so matchy matchy.

I've owned some Thomasville pieces that I purchased 11 years ago and was happy with the quality but I am not sure if it has changed now and haven't seen anything that I love on their website.

As far as area rugs are concerned, I have seen plenty of nice wool broadlooms that I like that I will probably have cut and bound.

I think Crate and Barrel carries Mitchell Gold? I know they carry Lee, which is nice stuff. And they have quite a few ready-ship items. Plus, 25% off custom upholstery until 10/13.

Unfortunately, quite a few of the more traditional furniture stores in Denver have closed their doors in the past few years. It isn't the easiest place to shop for furniture. The mountains are still going strong (well, they were), and Vail has some great furniture stores. Pricey, though!

That reminds me, for some fun European and mountain-themed pieces, check out Scandinavian Antiques and Ski Country Antiques. Both have websites. Scandinavian Antiques is a beautiful store, and has new upholstery. It's gone up in price a lot lately, though. (The dollar isn't going very far overseas ... the owner buys containers full of furniture in Europe and restores them over here.)
