I think your furniture placement is fine. My guess is the ottoman is where it is because it crowds the room if placed with the matching chair. You could slipcover the ottoman and use it in place of the coffee table.

Maybe you are looking to give the room more pizazz? My ideas would be larger, fewer knick-knacks, more textures (pillows, different window treatment), and more artwork on the walls.

I would put the couch in front of the window. The two chairs have such high backs they actually block the view more than having the low couch in front. I would put one chair on the wall where the couch is now and the other one at an angle where the ottoman sits now. Keep one table between them. The other one gets edited out of the room. The skinny round table is too high, and too skimpy to use with them. I would put it to the left of the entertainment center with a fluffy plant on it and add another potted floor plant in the same area. Edit out the light colored chair. I bet that nobody ever sits there anyway. Its not situated for TV viewing and is too far away from the other pieces for conversation. If you must keep it in the room, keep it in the same spot. Use the ottoman as a coffee table in front of the couch by getting a large tray for it.

Draperies would make a HUGE difference in the room. You'll like the room better once you have painted it. When choosing the right wall color make sure you match it against the wood in the room. The EC looks like the wood has pink tones in it and the floor looks like it may be orange-y. You may want to consider Sage. Just make sure you get the right Yellow, as Yellows can be tricky. Think about lighting for the room. A couple of table lamps by the couch will anchor it and give light for reading. Get rid of all the 'little things' sitting on the surfaces and go with just a few bold impact pieces. Add a couple of pillows in a natural fabric to break up the shiney couch.

I think the layout is perfect the way it is. That "box" looks very nice and comfortable. If you want more spark and want to redecorate, let us know. You're right, a new coffee table is needed

I too think the layout is great, as is. I even like the ottoman where it's currently situated. I do agree that a different coffee table would work better, and I think that once you paint the walls (and if you decide to replace the verticals with drapes), this is going to be an even better room. The paint will work wonders to cozy it up.

I like the layout as is too. I think paint is one of the best ways to make a room "speak." Definately post after pics once you've painted! I also agree about going with drapes instead of the blinds.

This doesn't really relate to your original question, but I see that your wall unit and side table have some pink tones to them. If you're keeping those pieces in the room, be sure whatever paint you use doesn't clash with those tones.

How can I tell if the paint will clash? I'm clueless when it comes to wall color...hence the white walls. :) Also wondering what drapes would be considered modern, versus traditional. I'm tiring of the verticals, somewhat outdated, I think, but drapes seem too traditional to me. Anyone have a picture of what I should be looking for in drapes? Thanks again for all the responses.

You have a nice room, just needs a bit of tweaking perhaps. I think the basic arrangement has to stay, as you are limited by the large entertainment center and window. But that is okay!

I would like to see the beige chair and ottoman used together. Right now, it feels to me as if the ottoman has been pushed out of the way for some reason, and is waiting to go back to its home. I would leave the beige chair where it is, and put the ottoman in front of it.

I don't think you need a coffeetable. With tables on either end of the couch, there really is no need for one. That will allow the ottoman from the beige chair to sit into the middle of the room a bit without creating traffic issues.

What I would like to see is the rug pulled under the front legs of the couch, rather than sitting as an island in the middle of the furniture creating another visual box smack in the middle of the room.

I would like to see taller lamps on the end tables, to help make the couch area seem taller and balance the height of the entertaiment center wal and the window wall.

I think you need a lower, larger table round accent table between the two leather chairs, instead of the plant stand that is there. Then add a great lamp, perhaps a clear glass one to feel lighter in front of the windows.

The torchiere seems to serve no real purpose stuck in the corner. I would move it over to the side of the beige chair , near the ent entertainment center.

I am not sure I would choose a gold/beige for that space. You already have lots of gold and beige tones in all the furniture (except the couch) and in the wood floor. I would look for a great green, something related to the rug, which will set off the furniture and make the room more interesting.

Add some colorful pillows, and some additonal art for the walls, and you are set. I would also consider adding some drapery panels on either end of the window to soften the hard edges of the verticals, and to bring some color to that end of the room.

The entertainment center might be another issue as far as what is on the shelves, but we can't tell from this photo. It does kind of appear that there are lots of little frames on it, which aren't always the best way to go. But we would need to see a head-on shot for determining that.

Thanks for your generous comments...lots to mull over. I'm leaning more towards the green/sage spectrum for wall color now. I'm going to go "play" in that room and use the ideas given here. Thanks again.
