Any photos of Florida style in decorating?
Comments (24)Ha! Golden Girls...perhaps one of the subliminal reasons I came kicking and screaming to Florida. But, once here found there are most definately regional styles...neighborhood styles, and home styles. Lived in three homes here...and each one was quite different. Palm beach and West Palm have a lot of spanish med influence. Lots of inside/outside living...so tile floors, simple window coverings(plantation blinds) to let the cross breezes in. I find it a fairly relaxed state decor wise. We keep our windows and doors open to the outside the better part of the year...so stained cement floors, lots of white slipcovers(can bleach the heck out of 'em!) work well for us. live in a spanish influenced house...with practically a jungle for a backyard.Much of our artwork has a regional/tropical bent. She'll have fun decorating. You'll have fun visiting!! here is a sample of our eclectic florida style... Here is a link that might be useful: Florida House...See MoreBeach house decor
Comments (24)Hi freedee: We also love Tremontano, but they only take cash!! We are debit card people for food items, so that store is a problem. Have you ever tried getting cash on the island? Not a good idea! They do make nice sandwiches, though. We also LOVE Oakies Meat Market in Surf City for great steaks and burgers, but get there early as it gets very crowded. Last summer we tried Taste of Italy in SC and liked their cold cuts and salads alot. gail618: I got those prices quoted from a local locksmith in the shore area. I got quotes from 3 different local locksmits and they were all in the same price range. I think the programmable lock was a Schlage (sp?). One of the locksmits told me he has it on his house and loves it. Interestingly, I asked him what people who strictly rent out their houses do about the key problem. He told me he is actually on retainer with several homeowners to go every week/weeks/month during the summer and change the pins on all of the door locks to insure past renters no longer have working keys to the houses!!! I can only imagine how that cost must add up! The locksmith told me that you have a master program (say 1234) and they you add a temporary bypass code to allow the renter or guest into the house (say 2233). After 2 weeks (or whatever you program into the lock), the code reverts back to the master code (1234). He said there are even locks you can reprogram from your cell phone without being there in person. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions....See MoreCoastal cottage cabinets
Comments (63)Its a quartz. I shared that from my phone so not sure it worked. It from Pantai Granite. 7770 NW 32nd St, Doral, FL 33122, (305) 591-1995. In person it doesn't look like marble. it has that that flat, non-translucent look that quartz has. That veining looked like undersea coral branches more than veining, which is why I picked it. It's really neat. I'll get a better pic of it....See MoreOT: Winterizing...in coastal SoCal?
Comments (36)plllog, we have a similar "micro-climate" here in Michigan. All along the lakeshore is zone 6, but less than 25 miles inland it's a whole 'nother zone, zone 5. Not as dramatic a change as skiiing and beaches, but it's always 10 degrees cooler at The Lake in the summer and 10 degrees warmer in the winter. sarah, we visited Dana Point while we were there too, I was looking for a date shake. Never did find one... Lars, hopefully I'll be seeing you this summer! Ellen, I'm sure we'll come again, but Jeremy comes here because he grew up here, his mother and brothers are here, and all the cousins. So, other family members visit occasionally but to see everyone, they have to come here. He likes July, LOL. Anyway, back to winterization! I saw the weather report, it's supposed to be down to 2F this weekend. I'm hoping my asparagus and garlic are mulched well enough as all the snow melted and that acts as insulation when it gets very cold. No snow, no insulating effect, hopefully those things are hardy enough to survive. Especially the asparagus, it's easier to grow more garlic. Annie...See Morermkitchen
