I almost always like a red door, they're classic. I like it for your house in particular because your door is inset behind those very prominent garages. The contrasting color will really help focus attention where it should be, on the main entrance. Nice choice!

Red door looks great. Go for it! I prefer the garage trim color on the right. Contrast on the left draws attention to the garage, whereas you want it to blend in. Right?

Do not paint the sidelight red - that is a part of the trim, not a part of the door. I would either leave it the tan color of the trim, or better yet, paint it the color of the garage doors for continuity and connection.

Consider changing the urns to the tan color of the trim, and getting a third one in between the two garages for more impact. Get some red flowers or berries or plantings in there to compliment the new lovely red door.

I like the front door...it looks great and I like the garage door on the right as it doesn't stand out so much. Think a bright red colored large ceramic pot on the front porch with a tall twisted evergreen topiary would be nice.

I prefer the garage door trim in the house trim color. Looking at the result, I would, however, paint the whole opening and not just the outer rim. It will lighten the side trim shadow, reducing the contrast between the two so it doesn't have an outlined eyeliner look but will be more blended overall. Try the one door first to see what you think.

I'm kind of undecided on the door. It's such a beautiful red that looks like a deep rich brown-red that goes well with the colors of your house. But I'm not sure the door is the right place for it. (I mentioned on another thread that a wreath or planter, for example, could pick up some of the red in a smaller dose.) Hard to tell how bright the red gets from the photo. It doesn't look bright here, just a bit off overall, imo. And too dark, I agree. Of course, it doesn't appear to be wearing any hardware either! Kind of giving us a blank look ; ) I believe you said you were going with a dark orb? What type of hardware are you using? Knob or long handle, kick plate, knocker? I'm wondering how much, if any, impact it will have in dressing it (from a distance in all the shadows).

i prefer the garage door on the right where the trim is the same color as the door...don't like how the tan trim calls attention to the doors. i would change out the garage door handles to orb/black tho.

Used Benjamin Moore Sundried Tomato, CC-62. It's a brownish red and I really like it; it was recommended by the colour consultant at the BM store.

Here's the "almost" finished house, just need another coat on paint on the front door & sidelight. The door is a bit bold for "conventional" me, but I'm calling it done for now.

FYI, I tried the sidelight grey, but there were too many colours going on. BTW, I think the neighbors are ready to have me committed, they see me and say "are you painting AGAIN????" (:

Now just need to add some red in the planters at the front, thinking something like that little pic at the bottom...

Your house looks great fillagirl! I did like the mossy green tint of the siding in your first staining, but with all the details on your home, I think this works better. It looks more cohesive this way. Your garage area has a finished look now with the trim painted. Just enough spark to not stand out from the rest of the house as a large dull patch across the facade. Really, it's hard to even see the red of the door from here. It looks pretty much brown on my monitor, but I'll take your word for it that it's a definite red. Hopefully you just need some time for your eye to adjust before you love it. I like the sidelight in the red, keeping it simple as you say, and the light trim works really well. Great job! Your perseverance has paid off. You're a very hard worker!

I think it looks great with the gray of the brick. Very classic. Good choice.
